"cut and paste" to remedy step edit is BEAT.

it would be so cool if in step edit u could go to the note, select the time and just move the jog wheel to the time u want.

Well, if it took me like an hour and a half to copy and paste a note I'd complain but it only takes like, less than half a millisecond so...

IMHO theres other things out there that need my attention like the Middle East, Global Warming, and whether I should go into the adult entertainment industry, and will I be as effective as a producer of hard core films as I am a techno dj -

yeah...to do it ONCE takes half a millisecond.

when i'm moving a snare around by little milliseconds to try and have stuff be more in the pocket, i have to do it over and over and over.


thats where it starts to take forever.

I guess that's just something I've never ran into - I try to Quantize my beats...but yeah, I could see trying to move a snare drum milliseconds (or ticks) being time consuming and very uninspiring - oh well, that's too bad.

I fully second punchdrunk about this missing thing in EDIT. Especially if you consider that everything you do in STEP EDIT cannot be undone (while you can undo what you did through SEQ EDIT...)

I personally believe that it is probably the biggest limitation of the mpc1000 sequencer.

The other being the impossibility to batch edit midi events (modify duration, modify velocity, time shift, time stretch - not sample stretch, just MIDI).

It's amazing that the sequencer of the 1000 is so limited compared to the 2000xl, it really looks like a lousy marketing trick, as the 1000 sequencer is basically a downgraded version of the 2000xl sequencer... I don't see any reason, from a strictly technical point of view.

This said, there is another workaround which is to hit REC OVERDUB while in step edit mode, this way you can just turn the data wheel to the note position you want, and hit the pad you want to insert at that specific note position. This is probably the fastest way of putting a given event at a precise position within a track (even better than using INSERT in STEP EDIT MODE).

I actually stumbled accross the rec overdub feature by pure chance. I hit the button by mistake when in STEP EDITR mode and noticed that you could enter notes step by step that way.

I am still trying to understand how the NEXT STEP function works, but it would probably help too. From what I understood the next step allows you to move swiftly by step increases (as defined in the TC screen?) to enter notes.

Anybody using this function?
