I see what you are saying about the zoning thing...but as of right now, I would really like to be able to easily adjust the track velocity...my soundcard only has 1 input so I would like to be able to mix the song down exactly how i like on the MPC - convert it to a sample - then bring it to the PC via CF card...I don't think it would be too difficult to add this feature so I hope enough requests/complaints will bring this feature about

I just love how the whole 1000xl rumor has spread into belief. The 2000 was"upgraded" to a 2000xl because it was impossible to update it's OS. It had serious limitations in hardware that couldn't be overcome, without major physical change to the unit, hence the xl. The 1000 does not have this problem. It has all the effects, uploadable code, even expansion bays (Hard drive). So don't expect a 1000xl too soon. Unless they realized the hard drive really doesn't work, and they need a physical board change to fix it. Highly doubtful though, since the CF card interface is almost identical to ATA.

Face it: You buy an MPC from akai once in ten years at most. Akai does not make a sh*t load of money off of us in this business. They are not some corporate giant screwing everyone. They simply have about 5 programmers supporting 4 products. If Akai feels they can make a change, and it will help make money, AND they have the resources to do it, I'm sure the people working there would want to improve things. Most of them probably have an MPC too! (I would if I worked there)..but then again, they probably all have mpc4000s, so that's where all the OS updates have gone :D

Hey JK,
Good info, both on the reasoning of why the 2000xl came about, and also the fact that the 1000xl is nothing more than rumor. I also like your info on the internal components of the 1K. I hope you are right that they'll keep improving this box before they dump it like an ugly stepchild and release a new replacement.
The second part about AKAI as a company, I just would like someone to say, yes, we are working on a update which will add functionality.
The velocity % by track on the main screen, after the pads, seems like one of the most basic things to have on this unit.
I understand the sample editing can be done on your computer, but people who own an MPC are most likely doing their sequencing on it, not their computer. They should make this simple fix.
My two and three and four cents

i feel you jk but im not sayign they are just screwing us for the money, but if they cna make soem minor changes like even some of the list that are goign around it would make a lot of people happier and dont you think they would want to make customers happy i mean it makes sense, but if i is possible why not do it, do they not have any time on their hands to satisfy the people who buy products formt ehm but you do make legit points it just doenst make sense that they wouldnt make siple changes but who knows maybe they will maybe they wont but the more emials they get the more they know that people would like to see changes. and it doesnt kill you if you spend five minnutes to send an email just for the hell of it anyway so every one should

First off, to the Akai development team(if you're reading this), thank you for the work you put into making a quality product. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

That said, I'd wager that the demographic Akai cares about the most are those who are in the market to buy something _like_ an MPC1000. Then comes people who have already purchased one. They want to sell more units, so they're really conscious of the public image of the MPC1000, because they know people research before they buy.

What I'm getting at is that potential customers have more "pull" than current customers. It is sold as a more or less "all in one " machine, so just as JK said, people don't usually buy more than one in a ten year span.

So here is my call to action. All of you on this forum who are seriously considering purchasing an MPC1000 need to email Akai and let them know how much you would be swayed if they decided to implement zoning, velocity %, etc. If it becomes clear to Akai that implementing this features would directly translate to more sales and profit, they will feel obligated to get to work on it, and at least try it.

Akai, if you don't already realize this, an active development team(who constantly implements new features) is a HUGE selling point. Look at Ableton. Look at Electron. It would be worth the effort.

Ok, just my 2 cents.

Lates,
Aaron

All I would like is track velocity and shift-timing features like on the 2kxl. This cannot be accomplished through my computer because they are sequencer issues. Even though I can acheive shifting through moving my events by ticks with the move feature, the shift-timing that they had on the 2kxl made it much easier.

By elmacaco Fri Jul 16, 2004 6:58 pm
apparently there is a shift timing feature, it just isn't called that.

the quality control on the 1000 seems abismal. the current owners are important because what they say / complain about will steer many people away from it and they'll buy a used 2000 or xl, which makes them no money.

I know all this talk of bugs has me not sweating it like I was when the pics were released.

Yeah, the shift timing feature seems to be one of the key ingredients of what people percieve of as the "mpc feel".

To Akai--the reason many people(myself included) considered/are considering buying a MPC is the sequencer. You know this. But perhaps it didn't occur to you that the shift-timing feature may have contributed greatly to to the reputation of the MPC series.
...or maybe it did occur to you, but the processor is already being pushed to its limits. I don't personally know how much it can handle, so I don't want to speculate(i am curious, though).

Another point here too--you are marketing the MPC1000 as an alternative to computer-based production. All fine and well; for me, it does seem better right now. But--customers coming from a software based system are accustomed to frequent(and often free)updates. These updates often not only fix bugs, but offer new and enhanced functions. Again, you are aware of this. But to compete in today's market, it would be wise to at least come across as having an active and responsive development team. Again, look to Ableton for a good example.

I'd also like to see a feature implemented, possibly USB based, that shuts down the computer if a person has been on the internet for more than 45 minutes, forcing them to make some music.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it does have a shift timing feature, it is called something else tho.

I think you have to go into the Seq edit page and select/move individual notes, rather than being able to, say, select the snare track and push every note back on the entire track. Correct me if I'm wrong too.

you cant really move individual events except for copying and pasting in step edit, and then deleting the old original event.

in seq edit you can move events according to periods of time in the sequence. so in theory you could use this to shift whole tracks, and i guess you could use this to shift indivual notes forward and backward, except you cant see the events like how you see them in step edit. you can either go back and forth between seq edit and step edit checking the times of the events (which is to retarded in my eyes to even bother with), or just use the copy and paste method in step edit (which i think most people end up doing). either way its lame that you cant just select an even in step edit and shift that event to whatever time you want. this isnt anything complicated, and it is my biggest dissapointment with my mpc by far.

(oh and it doesnt have the early/late feature of shifting events like the older mpcs....not that i expect the 1000 to do everything the older ones did....but still no easy shifting of events is retarded)

Rough'nReady good points, and we as customers you alreayd bought them can also sway peoples opinions so you could tell akai that im goign to send them more emails daily nto liek ahte mail tho jstu polite request haha. but for sure people thinking of buyign one or are buyign one send them emails and tellthem our list weather you wnat it or not cuz it only takes five minntues and could make a difference.

"3) adjusting event time in step edit"

thats the biggest one for me, by far

By elmacaco Fri Jul 16, 2004 11:55 pm
what, you can't alter duration?
