BootBlock Hell

Hmmm...

Looks like someone has been inside this MPC before. There are obvious screwdriver marks on the screw heads. Maybe the card reader had problems before. And the reader board is missing a mounting screw and a silver nut to secure the footswitch plug to the case. I don't understand how someone ends up with extra parts at the end of putting something together and doesn't bother to find out where they go. Haha.

I'll replace the screw and see if that could possibly be the issue.

I'm noticing the ribbon cable connecting the card reader to the main board has a couple dents in it. Does this seem like it could be a cause of the mpc knowing there is a card in the reader but not being able to do anything with it?

It also looks like one of the flex cables was installed upside down. I was looking at pictures of the internals and the middle flex cable had the blue tab facing up. In my mpc, there was no blue tab visible so I flipped the cable and reseated it. That didn't fix my problem but I think that may have been part of the problem.

I realized that the flex cable connecting the hard drive to the main board was the same and tried that with the cf board and it worked! I'm now back to the free jjos, mpc still not completely reassembled, but its working.

I'm so glad I didn't spend any cash getting it to work again. Thanks so much for everyone's help!!

Congrats man!!!! Im glad u got it working because I know that feeling of chasing down the problem and finding a solution without breaking the bank. Also from time to time you may have to open it to make sure ur connections are solid because from constant banging on the pads ur connections may become loose. Anyway homie great job!!

Good that you got it sorted without wasting money on a CF card reader, boot block recovery, or main PCB!

The cf card board is disconnected for now. At least I know the ribbon is cheap if I ever have to use it again.

In a funny way these kinds of little tribulations are almost worth it for the incredible rush of relief that washes over you when you find the problem and it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
