My bad. Thanks for pointing that out. I've been getting a lot of things mixed up lately like that. Saying one thing and meaning another.

I was telling someone about a Vestax mixer I bought, and throughout the convo I was saying it was a Stanton. Dude was telling me that stantons are kinda wack, and I didn't make a good decision. Until I showed him the mixer and he was like: :? "I thought you said it was a Stanton? This is a Vestax and it's dope." hahaha I was like:  "I meant Vestax."

The basslines come out sounding more like basslines and bringing up the resolution actually makes it sound phat. The 4k's filter sounded too robotic and digital, and the output on the low pass was always so low. It was very difficult to get a really nice filtered bassline on the 4k. The 4k can't handle bass like the 1k and the other mpc's can. It distorts the hell outta bass and it just doesn't sound right.

I don't have much use for the bandpass filter. Maybe I'm not using it right but I just don't like how it sounds. I really like the high pass though. I actually use it on my drums to get them to knock more. They cut out the bass that leaves the drums muddy sounding and your left with drums that smack you in the face. I put the filter on 10-30 depending on how muddy the drums are, and the snare I like with lmore high end as possible. A little bit of resolution too. I'm still perfecting it though. I'm going to try making the drums snap and put an 808 under the kick and see how that goes. Some low lows and some mids and highs for the drums. I've used 808 under kicks before, but not when I've used the high pass to make em snap.

Did you sell your MPC4k for a MPC1k? I'm thinking of doing the opposite... I was wondering if anyone uses both. Maybe the 4k in the studio and the 1k for traveling.

I really havn't gotten the time to get involved with the filters on the MPC1K so much yet, but after reading some of these posts, I'll mos def give it a go! :)

Actually, the 1k was my 1st machine. I sold it after about 4 or 5 months of use and bought the 4k, cause I wanted more of a standalone workstation, and I wanted to get away from the PC.

I then sold the 4k almost after 1 year of use cause I wasn't going to mess with beats anymore. After about 2 or 3 months with no MPC I went through some serious withdrawal and realized I NEEDED to make beats, regardless of whether I was good or not. This is my hobby and it's a big part of who I am. It just does not matter if I'm dope or wack, cause just doing it makes me happy.

After owning both the 1k and 4k for a period of time, and having some experience on the MPC 60 I was a lot more informed about the strengths and weaknesses of each machine.

See now, I had the choice to get any MPC that's available. I could've re-bought the 4k no problem, or gotten a 2xl or whatever. I decided to go with the 1k. Now that I have the 1k back I truly appreciate it. It is the right machine for me, and it suits my needs perfectly at this particular time.

The 1k is perfect for me because I ain't doing anything particularly complex. I am not using it to sequence other gear. I'm using it mainly just to sequence samples that I either load in or record in.

I may get a rack sampler later on that I can control with the 1k, I'm getting a DPS12 multitrack, and later on I may get a oxygen 8 or other small affordable midi keyboard (probably will not get the keyboard, but you never know). That's not a lot of stuff to midi for my set-up, so the 1k is fine for that.

Bottom line you really have to look at the features of each machine, and decide what is right for your set up.
