i have been extensively exploring this problem
which i have with os 1.7
namely: \
a long vocal sample cuts off on some beats when there are like about 7 stereo samples playing, like on beat 1 when a hihat (2 sampels) hits with a bass drum (3 samples) and the keys (1 sample at a time, 16 level tuned) are cued at the same time it will cut the vocal sample
I am definitely nowehere near 16 stereo voices...this prob is really annoying.
I can't play vocals over a beat w/o resampling all my multi drums!!!!!
Anyone feel like testing this out/sharing new info???
It may be related to the tempo dragging which I hear sometimes when I have a medium amount of MIDI data going out....
these 2 things together make me think I have one of the proverbial "crappy" 1k's that I never thought existed until I recently entered the excitin world of "layering".....

oh, another detail about when i had this issue-
the sample would cut out even when the track was solo'd
figure that one out

ok now that's something new to test
mine works ok (long samples ply thru) when one or two tracks are muted
so when I get home I 'll see if "solo" lets it work
or if its like yours and won't work in solo mode
but I suspect that my particular MPC will play long samples in solo if it plays them with some tracks muted, then continue to give me grief with everything together.

it was like that either solo'd or not solo'd but with everything else muted
a few times i kinda remember there being a specific track that when unmuted would cause the long sample track to cut out also. the 2 issues may have been unrelated i dunno. like there was something corrupt happening in one track that would cause another to mess up
make sure the CF card youre using is ok. sometimes theyre not and when you load a corrupt sample it will mess with the machine in inaudible ways.

Thanks, i'll try when i get home. Also, i called Nick at Akai Pro Service & Repair. He had never heard of the problem and was going to test it on there in house 1k. He was going to call me back but i never heard from him. His 1k must have blown up and killed him when he was deleting the internal memory.

Yo,
The same ish happened to me when I was making a beat. I had this really long vocal/opera sample, like 8 bars long, and had it playing over the beat, just a few drums and sht. By the 7'th or 8'th bar, the sample would just stop playing but the drums kept going. It was really annoying. I ended up just chopping up/zoning the sample into 4 parts and it solved my problem. At first I was pissed that I even had to do that, but in the end, it helped me think of a way keyer layout for the vocal samples and the beat turned out a lot cooler than it was before.
Sorry if that was a completley useless post and didn't really offer any solution to your problem...

duh! I didn't really read what you were saying to do at first. That's kida irrelevnt and dosent do anything good for the problem im having. I thinks i got the bad batch of 1ks. You don't think it would have anything to do with the 3rd party ram upgrade? No it can't can it? Mabey i'll downgrade from os1.7. Or mabey the new 2.0 os will fix it. I want to do anything to stay away from sending it to akai. I use it for shows and would be hurting with out it for a week or two. Mabey save sell and get 2500!!! But then again i like the small and portable aspect of this 1k.

murj wrote:actually, my response was very relavent as that is the reason why some people have that problem. it just so happened, apparently, that was not the case in your situation. but if you have a long sample and it's not set to poly, hitting another pad in that same program will cause that sample to just stop. (i'm not talking about mute groups) that's why i stated what i did.murj wrote:sparq wrote:dude, try doing this: on the pad that has the long sample, press that pad then press mode + pad 7(program) then press F3)parameters) and change the "voice overlap" to poly. hit main and see if it still happens.

Yeah, thanks again for the help spark.
Hehe, sorry for not putting all your minds at rest.
Closer: I degraded to 1.5 then reupdated to 1.7. Somehow that solved the problem. Must have had some currupt thing in my original 1.7 os. I don't know, all i know is im back to mashing on my pads!

I've had this problem from the get-go with my 1k. It's obviously a software problem, and it is still with me after all this time. I tried murj's downgrade-and-upgrade suggestion on a lark, but no luck.
I'm not generally a phrase sampler so this doesn't normally affect me but there have been a few cases recently where this is a very frustrating and real problem.
Still get dropouts, and as he said there's no way I'm coming anywhere near the polyphony limit. Dropouts occur when a pad is hit rapidly and there does appear to be some correspondence to particular samples causing the dropout, but I can't remember anything further at the moment.
Anyone work out another fix? And I mean fix, obviously there are workarounds as has been posted in this thread.
Peace,
