not really because for those who have the red/blue 1k, it's not going to cost them anything to upgrade the OS, so there isn't really a distinction between the two, other than the color.
What if a dealer happens to have the Blue 1k and the Black 1K in stock. Is it the dealers responsibility to tell the customer that there is a software difference. Of course we know but what about folks who are not on this forum?

you are missing the point. of course i can't be everywhere.
for 1, dealers will not get the black ones until they physically run out of the blue ones. second, it is ultimately up to the customer to find out what's what. when you first bought your mpc, did you ask your dealer what OS was installed? i'm sure most of us did not. ok for the sake of your post, let's just say a dealer does have both the blue and the black one in stock... unless the particular sales person is knowledgeable of that particular gear, he will not (himself) know what OS is installed. and unless asked by the dealer to akai, the dealer will not know what OS version is in stock. that's why for those of us who has the blue 1k, bought it with different versions of the OS (for example when i bought my 1k, it had OS 1.03, some ppl bought theirs with OS 1.05 and those who just recently bought theirs it came with OS 1.07) do i hold the dealer responsible for not telling me which OS is installed? NO. i mean, who knows, maybe Akai, will have on the box of the black units "Now with OS v2.0" maybe, maybe not. if not, will i hold akai responsible? NO. for those who are not on this forum, i would hope they would do some research on their gear so they can know about it. i'm sure they will go to akai's website to look around and notice support and operating systems.
all of this is why i feel akai shouldn't call the black 1k MPC1000 plus. if the black ones come with v2.0 those who have 1.07 will be able to download it. i'm sure even people who are not on any forums know that there is a way to update their mpc's. besides everyone with the blue one will soon have an opportunity to purchase the black kit directly from Akai.
