What in your guys opinions would be the best? and why?

alot of people would say Live because of ease of use but IMO if you are going to get serious in this game, i would go straight to Pro Tools. it's industry standard. it's not hard to learn. also i would go with cubase. since cubase LE is free with most interfaces, learn that then move up to cubase SX or nuendo. right now, nuendo is giving PT a run for the money. everything PT can do, nuendo can do and i've noticed a lot more major recording studios have both PT and nuendo because ppl are bringing their projects in formatted in nuendo. i myself find nuendo just as easy to learn as PT.

fair point i guess, in at the deep end and all that.

interesting about nuendo being used more in studios too. i remember liking it when i used it for a while a couple of years ago, but i've since gone thru a 'use legitimate software only' phase, so it'll be a while before i can afford it!

I just have been using one piece of software for all my recording since I started,

I might try nuendo and sonar out and make my own comparison.

nuendo could be compared to pro tools more than sonar though, which is more on the level of cubase and logic.

me personally, i would not use software like sonar, project5, live (for sequencing) or anything like that because this is not a hobby for me and i will be importing my sessions into major studio rigs. but for ppl who just want to learn about DAW's i guess those said programs wouldn't hurt.
