I need the lowdown.. The truth and nothing but the truth!

Exactly. I'm not complaining, just pointing it out. A lot of people on here like to "keep it in the box" and prefer that darker sound. But the 1k is a lot clearer and "brighter". As you say, less disturbance to the original sounds going into it.

Ok i havent had mine for as long as everyone else here im on like 6 months and have been producing for 3-4 years and def one of the best investments i have made in my studio, i love it great piece of gear.

sometimes i read posts and people rate gear and say how poor some gear is and i realise that this is all hype for nothing, forums can be a bad place if you belive everythig you read ( but you got sound advise from every post in this thread for real)

this machine is the sh****t , so much and so much more , i love the limitations as well , and i think its built well i strip almost all the gear i buy to check how its put together and i must say its pretty decent , fu.ck the few plastic bit people moan about , thast all replaceable , the main thing is it works and works well , its stable and realiable,

not that i wouldn't love a 2000 for the pads, performance wise. i'm really trying to step up my live drumming skills. i'm getting there, but i'd like bigger pads for that.

meanwhile, for virtually everything else, my mpc kills it...i'm painting it next week - silver sides, jet black face with green dotting (spraypaint held a yard above). all the letters will be painted off because i know what everything does.

i love this little machine.

I agree that the 1k whoops the 2k but if you can afford it, I would go 2500.

other than having a defective card reader on my original unit (let alone the bullsh!t i had to deal with for a blemished b-stock unit which rob ray lied about) plus 3 pads currently needing repair, the 1k is still a good mpc. akai really needs to improve the design of these faulty pads, since this is too common of a problem. other than that, i still like the 1k and hope to find the best carbon or graphite material to repair the pads with. as for the 2500, i'm not about to buy one just yet. i'd like to see how it holds up after a year from some people who bought them when they first came out.

from what i gathered at vst, the 2500 pads will not have the problem that the 1k pads did.

i agree with you there. i checked out the 2500 at guitar center and i was very impressed with the build quality. the pads, sliders, knobs are much better quality. but i'd still like to wait a while and see what's up since i still read about some weird sh!t about the 2500 in that forum... plus the 1k does all i need it to do, despite some pad problems that can be remedied soon. we're getting close with that site that was posted for the carbon/graphite. all we need to figure out is which material is needed and use a better adhesive. i'm hoping for the best, as far as that goes, since i really need better performance out of those pads just as much as you do.

the 1k is my first mpc and Its the best piece of equipment I've added to my setup. The only regret I have is not getting it earlier because I took a friends advice to buy another machine.

eddie - make no mistake, we are at an interesting point in time technology wise. we're at a serious boom. i have no idea your history in making music, but the mpc1000 (or any sequender) is an INSTRUMENT. it takes hours and hours of practice to learn to play it, and even more time to be able to be good at it.

samplers are interseting - they're the only instruments people purchase in which practice is creation. when you learn guitar, few people just start by trying to write their own songs. with samplers, you dont play mary had a little lamb until you're decent - you just GO.

so know that the world your thinking about entering into is not glamorous. it's hard fkking work, but VERY rewarding if you have the mental stamina.

I cant really answer your q cause ive only had mine for i think 9 months? or a little more.

but, I have had _no_ hardware problems whatsoever, so far.

and, the machine does exactly what i hoped in terms of seq'ing and sampling, i use it all the time, and i enjoy using it.

(good thing about os 2.0 tho, i would have complained about no filter sweeps otherwise )

Im going to go jam with my friends right now, using my 1k while they freestyle. free beats, free vocals-- i cant think of a better machine to be doing this with.

You and me both dude, or at least I would've been fuming a bit... the online descrip Akai had up for so long said we'd get it and when people were arguing with me about the descrip I was so confused. Anyway, we got it!
