"J-Dilla didn't read the manual, RZA didn't read the manual, Premier didn't read the manual."
Did you ask them that yourself? :?

"and the manual nearby as aid in finding or trying out specific functions during your first runs with the machine. "
Yep.

"MPZ60: you are clearly the type of person who learns how to use equipment by trial and error"
Yes, you are and I FULLY support that self intiative and go-get-it-ness(?!?).

"ryssen - well said, that's basically what i've been trying to voice for a while now and you put it nicely. "
He damn sure did.

"If you dont wanna be helpful then dont answer, its really that simple."
Your right, AND if you post a basic question on a public board, be ready for any and all replies cause as many different personalities that are on this board, SOMEONE is going to bring it to you like that.

Good for them. The problem in this case is why it´s better to ask a very basic question easily found in the manual (chack "Filter" in the index) on an internet forum than actually open the manual and check it out?

If you go about learning by yourself, and you come to dead end cause you won´t find a specific parameter should you not consult the manual to get it cause you´ll not be up to par with this and that hotshot producer? Should you rather post the question on a internet forum, is that the way they would have done it?

Some might see it that way, I don´t and a few are obviously on the same path as me. Check my third post in this thread for my view when the manual ends and the forums begin.

djragz wrote:If you dont wanna be helpful then dont answer, its really that simple.

I thought I was helpful. Check my second post in this thread.

djragz wrote:If you wanna question if I get into my machines, peep some of my tracks at:

I don´t and have not ever questioned your skills. What I don´t like is the forums being flooded with questions easily found in the manual, thus cluttering the forums.

djragz wrote:I know its a basic question, but I was frustrated at the time of the question, and having to explain why Im curious is insane for a forum. Im sorry man, thats just not cool at all.

Sorry to hear your disappointment, but just as pissed you get at people urging you to consult the manual, just as pissed do I get when people choose not to consult the manual. I guess we´ll be like enemies forever, or something similar. Sort of a Darth and Luke thing.

We´ll understand each other and make peace on my deathbed though, the way of the force is much stronger than forum ethics.

just don't cut his hand off till they invent an mpc that can be controlled with the mind.

<ghostly Alec Guiness voice mumbles>: use the force luke, but not too much if you have a mpc1000: you may break the pads.......

not taking sides here but I read the wu-tang manual #1 and RZA does say he never read the manual of his first sampler/sequencer because it was stolen from someone without it.

sometimes other djs ask me very basic quesitons that they might normally be afriad to ask..........cause I judged the usa championships and have been a dmc finalist in the west dmcs in 97.............sometimes people overlook things, to challenge me on a forum just because your well versed is kinda funny to me actually. I would never treat a newbie like that cuz were all interested in the same thing. Instead of encouraging u were being a tad bit on the bitter side........suggesting reading the manual was said a a couple of times, after I told u I read the manual, you still persist to be rude...........I would never talk to anyone like that my friend............Im on a MPC forum askin a MPC question AFTER READING THE MANUAL!!!!!! Let me break it down. I read on filtering, I tried the filter effect and it didnt come out to the sound I like, so I wanted to see if there was another way..............Why is that so wrong? U want to me "wax on wax off" 50 cars to get a little advice mr karate kid?

If you gonna try to bust me out, Ill stick up for what my stance is, just cause its not yours doesnt mean u have do talk down to cats. Ill back my ish with product that u can find in the stores too, but Im never to afriad to ask a question because were all here to learn.

Ryssen, I sorry that Im not as good at the MPC or as good of a reader as you. Im sorry I dont always get things right away. Im sorry my learning curve isnt as money as yours. Maybe one day I will be like you all mighty one. hahahahha My goal is to strive to be as good as you Ryssen.

But As Lamp said
Lampdog "Yes, you are and I FULLY support that self intiative and go-get-it-ness(?!?). "

djragz wrote:........suggesting reading the manual was said a a couple of times, after I told u I read the manual, you still persist to be rude...........

Well, rudeness is in the eye of the beholder. And as I stated in my second post here I truly thought your "thanks, so helpful" comment was ironic, and if it was not I made a mistake, which is **** up and perhaps disrespectful drawing conclusions without enough on my feet. I can see that you took it as a rude comment, though it was not my intention. I acted out of irritation over the countless people coming on here without bothering to read or try anything out by themselves.
I don´t see where I should possibly have been rude in this thread after that comment.

And I aint saying I´m better than you on the MPC, there´s more to using this thing than find your way around the different windows quickly. What makes you great or not is what you do with your head and hands while you´re in front of it, people probably make fire on this machine without even knowing about 1/8 of it´s functions. I don´t work that way, and I got the impression that you wanted work with it as a independent unit, replacing your computer and FL. Out of experience doing the same thing I adviced you to start at the very bottom and work yourself up with the manual as your obvious reference during this.

By the way, I´ve changed my mind on this. Far to much whining and not enough flaming. I´m stripping you for the true story:

Ragz first post:
djragz wrote:Can someone please tell me if they filter a sample and if the filtering sounds really filtered.

First answer:
MPZ60 wrote:Go To Program...Filter and you have 2 available filters you can chain . For the muddy sound you would drop the Frequency on a Low Pass and raise up the resonance until it sounds right. You can set a filter up on a pad and then use the slider function to filter the sound in real time. ( Use OS 2 if you have not downloaded it yet)

Second answer:
Skagarax wrote:*Image of page 41 in the PDF manual*

Ragz reply:
djragz wrote:Much Appreciated! Sorry if my questions seemed to basic, but I must have overlooked the manual and Im glad I came to this site.

Comment: As you can see none of the above answers is more detailed or thorough (apart from the resonance bit which is highly subjective) than the detalied descriptions of the different filters and the results they make described in page 72 of the manual.

Ragz makes a first statement about his manual reading:
djragz wrote:Right, I understand that you said to read it cover to cover........and I did and I had a question

Ragz makes a second statement about his studies of the manual and having read up on tried out the filters. (For comparison and reference, check his first post)
djragz wrote:Im on a MPC forum askin a MPC question AFTER READING THE MANUAL!!!!!! Let me break it down. I read on filtering, I tried the filter effect and it didnt come out to the sound I like, so I wanted to see if there was another way..............

After which he asks:
djragz wrote:Why is that so wrong?

Well, from an outsiders point of view I can´t see how the above answers should make anything more clear than reading the section in the manual on filtering and take a few minutes to try different things out.
This makes me think of severeal possible scenarios:

A. You didn´t read the manual. Your first post might suggest that cause you didn´t seem sure there are filters at all on the MPC 1000.

B. You don´t know how a filter works, thus not getting the wanted result thus making you doubt of the filters actually filtered the sounds and might be there only for show off.

C. You actually can´t read and have some sort of text to speech function you apply on your computer. And that´s no shame, just be open about it.

D. You´re just as much of a whiner as me, but you´re ashamed to admit it so you make up as you go along. Once again that´s no shame in being a whining hag, just don´t start pull rabbits out of your hat to try to cover it.

Which of the above that´s closest to reality only you know, all I know is that you´re partly full of bullsh*t and your whining is kinda kindergarten.

Now your claims ain´t empty whining anymore, I´ve been rude to you, and by this point you surely deserve it as much as I deserve whatever comes my way.

your commets are only how u see them cuz. Im not the only one who felt your comments were a little messed up. Yo man, How man times I told u I read the manual................hahahahahaa I posted something originally and decided to edit it. Im just gonna stop talking in circles with you cause you cant address the key facts. Im in a MPC Forum and im going to continue to ask quesitons. Reading some other topics, its been pretty helpful and talking with others privatly has been positive. Im just gonna end this now and tell you that I think your a complete A** and can care what you think. Thanks again to those people that have been helpful.

I always read the manual for new stuff. But the first time most of it doesn't make a lot of sense ;-) But if you use the instrument a bit and then go back and read it again, a lot more of it makes sense. Repeat that process and you eventually totally get it.
