Why not... the headphone out is an exact duplication of the stereo out except for the fact that its both signals in one port, as opposed to a L and an R. . .

the point is to make sure you are using good cables, not to amplify the headphone jack's output....

I didnt know how hard it would be to actually find cables with one end 1/4" and the other RCA

My amp uses rcas...

Sorry i dunno why but I was under the impression the headphone out signal was different in some way than the signal from stereo out....

technically it is different, it has the two halves of the stereo signal output from a single jack and both tied to the same ground. when using a mono cable you'll only get one side of that signal, but for testing purposes that is sufficient to ensure your cable is working. just be sure to test both sides.
