What Else Should I Get When Purchasing a MPC1000?

first thing i would recommand is a set of decent monitors, they will help you make a good sound, and at the time your used to them you could upgrade your MPC(i would recommand the 128 mb ram upgrade). After that you also could buy a good soundcard/interface with multiple inputs to track out your beats on indivual tracks(kick/snare/hat/sample/bass)

It also is a good idea to instantly work with the JJ os wich will only cost you $30 extra, it gives you tons of extra features and in my opinion, it makes chopping on the computer and using software to make programs unneccesary..

I bougth my stuff piece by piece...as u progress in skill thats when the hardware stuff comes in.

FOR THE BUDGET SOUND PRODUCER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a stanton t.50 turntable, needle cartridge, and a numark mixer for about $185

Then bought my MPC1000..just used regular headphones($15) to make my beats.

I got the dorumali drum kit from a while back...about 800MB of drums...real good ish if u ask me...used that for a while.(some ish i got off topsite years back)

As my sound got better and I started layering more I bout my KRK 5's($300), mackie1202($300), and got some free sound pads(worth bout $90-120). Eventually bought a m-audio pre interface($150) to record on ACID PRO 6.(downloaded cracked)....NOTICE as u get more into tracking your music. ProTools will be the way....in interface and autorec combined with the plugins make it a breeze to record.

But I just bought 256mb ram($30), 40gb HD($50), and some nice headphones($30)....so as time goes on u will see what u need. Dont just buy stuff to to say u got it.

The next thing I will buy will be Pro Tools mini and a midi keyboard for basslines.

I UPGRADE BASED ON WHAT I THINK MY MUSIC NEEDS....

Shop around also....newegg....pricewatch....tigerdirect....compusa....theres mass places to get the same ish for wholesale prices.

Well, Im trying to order my MPC by next month and I believe they will still have their deal going where you get a free 128MB ram upgrade. Is anymore necessary or should I just do as the one guy said and just upgrade as i go along and realize what I need?

So far, it seems like off the bat, a compact flash card is necessary, the newest JJ os is necessary....everything else, it seems I should hold out on it at first.

I mean it depends on the person....everyones different.

As you make more and more music....the goal is to find your own sound. Most cats copy other producers and get categorized. After a few months you will notice you have certain tendancies and these are what make your sounds yours. As you listen to your music repeatedly as you do others....you will notice what your missing or what could sound better.

In my case my samples were nice but the drums were to stiff. So I stopped quantinizing my drums.....then I noticed I was using the same drums to often.....then I decided to use breaks....then I needed memory and a hardrive. Then I said I need a program that can record and give me plug-in's....organs, brass, bass.....etc. So its a chain of events that will make you buy this stuff. Master your machine then say you need to upgrade...dont buy it and partially know how to use it. I would recommend you master the MPC first and as the weeks go by...buy what u need based on the sound you tryna achieve.

Okay, i keep hearing about turntables. Are you guys talking about specific turntables or for me to eventually get one...either cd or vinyl or usb(yea, im clueless, im just listing what I see at americanmusical.com)??


Mind you, this is probably going to be for later as i would need to learn the machine, but just for my heads up, which ones are you guys talking about?

man.....u just need to do more research....cause most of this stuff u should know....make sure this is somehing u really wanna do b4 u invest money

i recommend dont get anything else .. if u got an mpc treat it like it is for what it is and does..sample urself ur own creations ur own style not anyone elses just make ur own sounds. dont have to kill ur wallet to sound creative.. use ur head instead and ears and a cassette recorder.. master ur mpc

Nah, I do research. I see what people have to say, I check stuff out. I question a lot because every time I think I know something, someone throws something else at me. I just question a lot, but I guess I'll stop with the questions at least for awhile.
