Midi or not, Lampdog is exactly right. If you have two sequencers side by side (hard or soft) and one is 96 ppqn and the other is 960 ppqn how are you going to here the difference? The LOWEST resolution on the 96 ppqn sequencer, which is one tick, is still within 2.5 milliseconds of ANY point in time. So, on the 960 ppqn sequencer you can move a sample 10 ticks and you NEVER hear a difference since those 10 ticks will only move a sample the SAME 2.5 msec. What is the purpose of having it tens times as accurate but not make a difference.

In other words, you have to move a sound 2 ticks in a 96 ppqn sequencer to hear the difference, 10 ticks minimum in a 480 ppqn seq to hear it, or 20 ticks in a 960 ppqn seq. So, Roopesh, you want to try to tell me there is something better about these higher resolutions. I feel really sorry for you if you cannot understand this simple concept after it being explained to you so many times (I guess it is sort of like learing how to move a sample 1 tick?).

Regardless Roopesh, this is an MPC forum. The MPC is a sampler and sequencer. You do nothing but ridicule the MPC sequencer and put off current and potential owners. You have said nothing that further helps MPC users or Akai in this thread. Actually you are doing the opposite. I for one, would like to see Akai sales go up. We are lucky the Akai is even still in business (oh the stories I wish I could tell). At one time there were a dozen sampler companies. They are almost all gone and it isn't because Akai put them out of business.

Does it matter if software or hardware is superior? Not really. I have confidence in my tools of the trade and I like to see others have confidence in the tools of their trade, expecially if they are using Akai gear. Let's say I dated Wonderwoman. I loved everything about her and I thought she was the best thing in my life. Would I want to hear everyone else tell me that she was not right for me? Would it help even if I listened? And if i listened, would it not do anything but plant seeds of doubt in my mind and always wondering if I was not missing out on some other woman to date? Was I wasting all these years only dating Wonderwoman? Was there a better woman? Would I now spend all my time wondering about the alternatives instead of enjoying my time with her? I would be better in ignorant bliss about these other women and just concentrate on her. I would even feel good when my REAL friends congratulate us on our wonderful relationship. Sure we might have troubles, but that is time when I go see my REAL friends on a bulletin board somewhere to get advice on how to properly handle her. I really do not need to hear how much better the other women are. The MPC is my Wonderwoman.

10x the resolution is a big deal.
960 vs 96 makes a huge difference.
Every hit you make has one of ten spots to sit in instead of one.
I owned the MPC2000, there was a time where I had a great snare pattern in my head, tapped it in, no timing correct. Guess what, I could not recreate the pattern in my head on the sequencer, the resolution was not there.
If you have a long sample and you want it to hit earlier, what do you do on a low resolution drum machine (64 or 96ppqn)?
Either double the tempo so it has two spots to sit in instead of one - or move the start point forward on the sample, (as long as you have a little bit of blank space) and now the sample hits a little bit sooner.
Final option is to just record the audio out, and voila, instead of being limited to 96ppqn, you suddenly have 29,465pqn.
(Math is with a 90bpm loop - at 44.1khz - one bar = 117860samples. One quarter note = 117860/4 = 29465).
I dig the MPC groove, it is super intuitive, it grooves, and you can lay down a funky beat in seconds without touching a mouse.
My two cents, wanted to chime in.
Thanks

do you make music???

dont take it wrong...

coz its important to know, because i get the impressions that you seem to think you know it all...but have not put ure 2pence worth in pratice...

Roopesh, why do you give 3000 so much s**t on this forum.
It's almost like you're lurking round the corner waiting to ambush him at the first thing he says!
Look, he might be quite abrupt with his responses but that coz sometimes the FACTS hit us hard, u know hard to swallow.
Give him a break, we need poeple around like him on this forum so the rest of us can learn!
We don't need poeple around like you giving him s**t coz then the rest of us might miss out coz he can't be bothered to post!

FACTS hit us hard, u know hard to swallow...LOL

What Facts???

the guy has no experience outside of the MPC world.

he has crippled knowledge about any other gear.

this is why i am glad i started with software first, then intergrated hardware afterwards.

this is where i got to learn things, experience things, and put them to practice.

i have learnt the in & outs of many software sequencers and hardware sequencers including the mpc 1000/2000x.

its not that ime knocking the MPC's, otherwise i would have returned mine a long time ago. i love my MPC 1000.

but i also like to admire the other that i have, since i know thier capabilities.

and Mr3k, stabbing back at me with features that i had not yet learnt (on the 1000) like shift timing, does not make you the all in end expert, or me a complete plank of wood.

in fact is shows that you know ure MPC's...but thats about it.

why do i say this???

well it seems abvious that you tear apart any view points expressed about other more powerful sequencers that have more ppqn, etc, etc...

and that is where I feel sorry for you.

if i remember correctly...you also own a mpc 1000 as well as a 3000 (am i right). so why??? did you knock the 1000 in another thread by putting down and cracking a line on its midi sync capabilities.

grow up...and learn.

"in fact is shows that you know ure MPC's...but thats about it."

And this is based on what?

Where have I stated that I do not use software? Where have I stated that I did not start on software first? Where have I stated that I do not use software now? Where have I stated that I am not a software engineer and programmer? Where I have I stated that I do not own a few other pieces of gear that I know just as well or better than the MPC series? Where have I stated that I do not hang out on other forums related to other gear and get the same grief? Where have I stated that I do not write music?

Certainly I do not do this here. This is an MPC TECHNICAL FORUM. If it is not MPC related, I do not mention it. It is off-topic. Unlike some people, I do not need to name drop, mention that I work with $35k of gear, or recite software specs to impress people. I am here strictly to give technical advice related to MPC matters. Do I care if people know that I can do other things in my life? Not at all.

Roopesh can call me whatever he likes. It will never bother me, since I could care less what Roopesh thinks about me. I have a life outside this board and it is too good to let something this petty to bother.

Roopesh needs to define all others narrowly so that he can feel like a big shot. His S/n ratio is horrible, and I am surprised he can even log in.

Too much ego trippin going on here, homie needs to shut the **** up and read the shit he posts. He probably wouldn't see it, some brits are really f'n dense.

you had a good point up until you decided to make that ignorant comment at the end. what the hell does his nationality have to do with anything.

It's a shame you feel that way!

Different cultures have different attributes, some americans are really stupid, I mean really stupid, culturally insensitive, and feel the world revolves around them.

I have had very good british friends but I have come across this density before in some folks from the UK, and I think it may be something in the water. I didn't say you, or most, each nation leaves it's mark on their assholes (or arseholes) and that's what I am referring to. Nationality and culture do have a lot of bearing on people. Some Brits have the empire mentality still, and some americans still think they are the revolution and cutting edge of freedom.

Luckily I haven't seen that kind of thick headedness around here much at all.

Grain of salt fellas, grain of salt.

I was gong to leave it alone but it needs to be said.
Each should respect the next man's opinion.

If you want to tactfully argue fine.
If you want to give advice fine.

If you start on race and creed derogatory issues/differences then you need to pump your brakes, this is an MPC forum, please try to keep it as that.

Wasn't this supposed to be about Sequencer PPQN anyway?
