check the back panel, if its black and not plain silver metal its prob a good one.

If it came in the black box and not the ugly blue one.

If it came with a black 128mb cf card.

feel the pads if they compress push down and are not rock hard u my friend have a good one.

A month ago my 2000xl broke down :(
But I was thinking of buying a new 1000, with the Euro standing superb rates and family of mine goin to Brighton this is like a super deal for me.

I was thinking of buying it at GAK but my question is

How do I explain to someone who doesn't know MPC's how to check if it's an updated model because I do not want to have to change the pads and .... since I'm buying a new model .....

Is the best way to check to look at the back if it is all black???

thanx for anyone who can help me!!

1st, inform the uninformed participant that he will have to perform a non-invasive test that will not involve opening the box

ask him to navigate the lower most left pad (pad A01) and to pull up on it from the lower most left corner.

if it's the new pads, the rubber pad's corner lip will actually come out of the frame with minimal force. (because the pads are all connected. don't worry, it's very easy to push back)

if it's the old pads, you will not be able to get the pad's corner to budge without considerable force (because each pad separate and is "locked" in place

regarding my new purchase: i too easily pulled out a pad (top left one - PAD13)... was extremely easy... very squishy as everyone states -definitely unlike the floor model at guitar center which was hard as rock- so im pretty sure mine is the new build.

again i can't seem to find out how to check what version OS is running? can anyone please throw a bone my way. believe me i've rtfm and tried to google this!

and lastly. for those interested in buying one... i got my MPC from musicians friend brand new for $US860 shipped (to nyc)... they priced matched djdeals.com

actually havent upgraded to JJ yet. this is my first MPC so figured I'd try and get my head around using it with the default OS first before upgrading --- or is that a bad idea?! :\

I bought my first mpc 1000 over a year and a half ago, and i had so many problems within the first week like the pads would dye on me.

If i hit a pad it would play a sample that was assigned to a different pad, and on top of that it play it with a double tap every dam time. try making a beat like. good luck.

So i went to the store were i bought it from, thank god i paid for extended warrenty, they took it back i waited for 3 weeks and i go home, plug it in and the same sh*t happend.

I swear they didn't even look at it. Plus they sent me a little lunch box note scribbled on a napkin saying, we tested it and its fully working 100%. BS

So the people at the store ordered me a brand new one and just swapped it.
Now i have the new mpc 1000 so far no problems, and i beat on it every day for around 4 hours.

make sure you get the new mpc with the newest firmware.

Oh ya and mine is all black.

check out some of my beats -------> http://www.illbeatz.com

i would say go for the jjos (there is a free one available) akai os is complete and utter crap i hated it from the moment i used it especially the first time when i went to load a folder and it didnt load all of the samples that was all it took for me to switch.
