wasting your time bro. Akai did their homework. Theyll have an answer for every angle. Just buy the upgrade or sell your MPC and pick up a new one with the new pads. I know it sucks and people SHOULD be taken care of better but at this point its a lost cause. Plus with as many pad kits as they have been selling.....they aint down to lose money now.

I sent him an invite to join our discussion, though I doubt he'll respond here..

Really am thinking about making the switch to a Roland MV-8800. Anyone know if Roland may be looking into smaller 8800 like portable units?

Anyone know a Law Firm that would like to pursue a Class Action Lawsuit?

Well then, let's hear it. That's what they get paid for right? Gotta put 'em to work right? I haven't yet heard the the official Akai "response" to the question I posed. I'm intrigued. Like I said, no expectations. I just think they should have to earn that lie money.

i absolutely hate how they STILL treat this flaw as if they were all isolated, individual cases.

respond, if you like, by stating that the engineering flaw has been demonstrated and reproduced by countless users. i quote their response email:

The pad sensors are not flawed on your MPC1000 unless you are having a
hardware problem.

no sh!t, dummy - the hardware problem is that they implemented a structurally flawed pressure sensor design.

Email to Andy @ Akai

Hey, thanks for the reply Andy

If it's an optional accessory, why is it included as standard in the new units?

Id like to invite you to discuss further @ the forum below.

His Reply..

Hello David,

I see you posted my response in the forum. To clear things up for you, there actually was a change in the pads, the older MPC1000’s sensors were changed but it was probably a result that the part which was used was low in production and was then replaced with the new pads. The kits we sell as an accessory are the pads that are currently installed in the 1000’s which I’m sure you know. If your MPC does have the older type pads installed and if you wish to install the kit you can purchase one through our parts department, the kit is sold as an accessory because people that have the old style pads, and would like to install the new pad kit have the option to do so.

Let me know if you need help with anything else,

thank fuk i got the new pads. (sexy black pads at that  lol)

 Welp there goes the thought of selling my 1k. Might as well keep it since it has the "rare" mpc1k pad system installed that you can only get when you buy a new 1k. hahaha

P.S. I stole them out a new 1k anyway, and put them in my blue 1k... hahahahaah!.

Lol I had my MPC1000 for a month and a half before about 4 of the pads stopped working. Now maybe 1 works and I havent touched the thing in years.

I thought it was an isolated incodent untill I came on these forums.

Akai have insulted me with the responses they gave you guys. I do not plan on buying any new products from them. Unless maybe they give me free pads. Which they wont because they are clearly scum.

i've tried to explain this in the past, but here's the deal again:

-buy a 1000 from an online retailer with a 30 return policy
-switch the pads when you get it
-return it for a refund, tell them you're thinking about buying the 2500. the person taking the return wont even ask questions; they'll be scheming on the commission for the more expensive unit.

no matter what happens after that, akai will end up with those broken pads, eventually. the employee inspecting returns for the dealer is not about to open the thing up and check the pads. they likely dont even know there's a massive design flaw, they just match the serial number and put it back into stock. even if someone else buys it, they'll be covered under warranty, and it'll go right back to akai. and if, for some bizarre reason, you're concerned about screwing akai, all they'll do is put the "upgraded" pads into the machine and reseal it, they're probably not even losing money on the deal. finally, even if by some strange turn of events your specific return arouses suspicion, simply inform the retailer that you're confused, because akai's official stance is that ALL mpc 1000's ship with the same "retro" pads, and that the "new" pads are only available as an upgrade. you are an honest, loyal customer, you have no idea what this fuss over pads is all about, you are insulted that they would even suggest such a thing and unless they can prove that whatever they're claiming happened was a result of your actions instead of the half-dozen other people who had access to the package, (warehouse staff, shipping company personnel, etc.) you must insist that you receive a full refund as per their stated return policy.

trust me. ;)

I'm waiting for Akai to come on here with the next desperate BS routine --

"Ok, Ok, we admit it, the pads suck and they fall apart.. but but you gotta understand, it was that JJ guy, yeah, that's it .... after he beat us up and stole our source code that we didn't pay him for he made us put those crappy pads in there because he's just a really, really bad dude but, um, we didn't say anything before because it would hurt the users you know......"

Some type of class action suit would prob take care of this... I know there are more than enough owners out there to make it justifiable to a lawyer out there trying to make a penny. IMO this would fall in the lines of automotive recalls, design flaws are the manu's responsibility.

I think that was addressed a few months ago (the law suit) I think the user was told there wouldnt be a case. Not 100% sure but thats what I think it is. If Akai gives a 1 year warrantee and most of those pads died outside of that then theres really not much that can be done about it. Sucks but it is what it is.
