MPC1000 Hard Drive Recommendations

the HDM10 is so you can mount the hard drive INSIDE the mpc. nothing would be external.

Oh, thanks. I didn't know the MPC could fit that in there.

ok ok... i keep having to ask this question... and no one will give me a straight forward answer... they keep tellin me to look it up.. or read other threads.. and i have.. and cant find my answer....

do i need hard drive..or a bigger cf card...??????????
i put my samples into my mpc from my computer through usb... load them up.. but when i go to pitch bend.. or time stretch.. there isnt enough memory?... so i need more right?.. so i need hard drive right?
how much do i need/ how much do i have...??

Buy the Kingston Ram (mentioned in the other thread), so you can have the ability to load more samples, projects, etc.
COST: Around $30-$40.

To store all your samples, projects, etc., you need a CF card or a hard drive. The MPC1000 uses a laptop hard drive and the HDM10 hard drive adaptor. Buy the recommended hard drives tested by Akai, or any laptop hard drive that's reported to work in this thread. After that, you'll have more than enough storage space.
COST: Anywhere from $74-$100 (or higher, depending on storage capacity)

The HDM10 can be found at VST for $25 + shipping.

that is because you still have only 16mb (standard) memory. the reason you are getting insufficient memory is not because of the size of your CF card. it's because of the size of the RAM you have. ppl keep telling you to look it up because there is a sticky talking about CF cards and RAM at the top of the 1000 section. you have to upgrade to the 128mb RAM in order for you to do what you want to do.

ok... so...i need this HDM10 beacuase thats what the hard drive plugs into??
and how much hard drive space is reasonable.. i dont think i need a whole lot.. cuase i only work wit a few samples at a time.. its not like i have a million samples so i dont need a really big hard drive.. but its gotta be a decent size....

also since ima get a hdm10 and a drive.. then i really dont need a new cf card right???....

Oh, thanks. I didn't know the MPC could fit that in there.

be sure to read what type of HD to get. don't go and take the drive out an old desktop computer, cause it won't work. you have to get a laptop hard drive. read the threads in this section to find out what type of drives work.

Yeah, thanks, I read all that. I just couldn't figure out if the hard drive went inside the MPC or looked like an external hard drive.

ok ok.. i use my laptop to store all of my samples.. and i just move them to the mpc through the usb.. so really i dont need a cf card.. becuase i store everything in my laptop.. and on my laptop external usb drive... i have plenty of memore there.. so im ok on the cf card right?

also... i have to get the adapter in order to get a hard drive right?...

I just got the adapter and tried two drives, an iffy 20G IBM Travelstar and an old 800MG Toshiba, with the 20G the MPC booted but the drive didn't show up anywhere, with the 800MG the MPC stalled on the memory check ( 128 MG Ram ), what gives? Do drives have to be prepared in a certain way? Will they show up automatically? I can't find any information on software install of a hard drive.

Has anyone tried the Western Digital Scorpio WD1200UE 120GB hard drive and had success? Newegg's price for it is very reasonable and I'm thinking about getting one for my 2500. I just wanna make sure it will work.

dang ordered a WESTER DIGITAL SCORPIO WD400ue and the drive is spinning but not recognizing it mine works on my mpc but not working on my bro's i dunno i guess that anwsers the above question

i picked up my adapter and a western digital wd scorpio laptop hard drive at best buy. so far this drive is not working. i spent all night loading 22 gigs of samples on it, but when i look at the hard disk in the load screen, i see hdd free=0.0mb wave free = 122.4mb, seq free = 1664kb. i can see the samples when i connect the mpc to my computer through usb, but the mpc does not see the hard drive.

i did a full format first and it said windows could not complete the format after about an hour, then i did a quick format and that went pretty quick. about 8 hours of loading samples and no good.

western digital wd scorpio= no good so far

edit: it seems to be working now, i think. i formatted the drive again in the mpc itself and i put one of my drum folders in there and it showed. so now i am loading a stupid amount of samples.
again.

i will let you know tomorrow.

all right. i dont know what the problem was, but it works now. so the hd that i mentioned in the above post is ok.
