I totally understand, no disrespect takin, I apreciate all your help. This is a great forum and I have found many useful knowledge from it.

I do have one last question about these pads. Since I have never really used any of the other MPC's.

Other than the pads on the mpc 1000 being cheap and break easy......

If I switched them out, would i find that its a better feel when playin drum sequences with the new pads and sensors?

i would certainly hope so.
my goal has been to get a broader range of velocity, but before ANYTHING the goal has been stability and durability. since all the issue was in the original sensor setup, having changed that, i am confident that the difference is a positive one.

i leave FULL LEVEL off all the time now, unless i'm working with velocity layers of different phrases (ie a 4 bar sample chopped into 16ths on the first level, the next 4 bars as 16 on the next level, and so on. don't really want alternate velocity there.)

Just thought about something.....the NYM pad fix costs as much as $150. Now with that price, you can get an MPC 16 for sure...and possibly an MPD 24 (list price $199). Although the NYM pad is tied in one neat package...the MPD option must be a serious option for 1000 users since you will finally have real MPC pads as well as sliders and knobs....

I have the MPD16, how would that work? Would u just run it via MIDI and then just use the pads on the MPD16 to trigger the pads on the 1000? and then just use the 1000 for everything else besides pad hits?

That's exactly how it would work. I am surprised that you haven't tried it yet....the end of worrying about your pads breaking down.

yeah it works well. i did this for a week or two. it COULD be the best solution, but for this:

1 - the MODE button - you can't hit MODE and then pads on the MPD to reach mode functions. this would have been absolutely awesome if you could.

2 - space. you usually sit with the 1k directly in front of you. there's a little more reaching involved here as you move from 1 machine to another. all this means is a little getting used to, but it's something that i didn't like while using this setup. ended up selling the mpd.

3 - when jahrome says "real" mpc pads, he's trying to say older model Interlink Electronics FSRs. while the mpd does use good old FSRs, the actual pads of the mpd (the rubber part) is thin and hard compared to the 25, 2, 3, and 4000. i didn't like em all that much. they may have changed this with the mpd24 or that korg finger but i'm not sure.

4 - the MPD16 automatically sent out aftertouch messages that cluttered my step edit. there's probably a way to turn that off but i didn't really research it. i just set it to view "note only." however, it was still kind of a pain. not a huge deal.

5 - my biggest issue other than the mode button thing was that i've gotten realllllly used to working with the 1000, which meant that my fingers would go to those pads automatically. you'll really have to train yourself to move to the other controller. again not not a huge deal but something to consider

6 - finally, it's another thing to carry around if you're on the move. luckily the mpd16 is small but don't forget to buy a power adapter so it can run without usb power.

using the mpd to control an mpc1000 works but it's definitely not ideal. may appeal to some folks with a more sedentary studio/lifestyle. one perk is for live shows, you now can control 2 pad banks at one time, which is pretty cool.

MPCs have always been MIDI sequencers and not stand alone machines. Using an MPD controller is no more less than ideal than using a keyboard controller or sound module with it. Why do you think MPCs have multiple MIDI INs and OUTs?

Now using a MPD or keyboard controller as suggested was not meant to replace getting in and out of menus..just a way to save wear and tear on the pads....nothing more. You can still use the pads (if your MPC isn;t broken) to gain access to menus.

this suggestion has been posted before, and the MODE issue i addressed was a FAQ, so it was worth posting.
