New black mpc 1000 has new pads inside [Updated w/Pics]

My first mpc and this not very encouraging.

it shouldn't be. first and last - buy used. this has come and gone with no apology from akai.

just opened my mpc1000bk (bought new in italy this summer) to find out i've been sold a model with the feckin faulty old pads!!!
i just wrote akai askin for a substitute machine (i will lose my jjos2xl) or an upgrade pad kit for free. do you think they gonna answer me?

The traditional MPC1000 pad design has been in use for the past 5-6 years with many, many thousands of units out there being used and working fine. There are not any inherent issues with the previous pads. If you are experiencing issues with your unit, the distributor which covers the country or region where your product was purchased will be able answer any questions you may have about your product’s warranty, and can refer you to the appropriate service center. The answers to questions such as, “What’s covered by my warranty?” and, “How long is the warranty coverage?” are determined by the distributor from which the product is originally purchased. We will be happy to provide you with their contact information. Please note that your product is only eligible for warranty coverage in the country or distributor territory in which it was purchased. If you have moved, or you are now located in a different region from the one in which you purchased their product, we can also provide you contact information for the closest distributor to you who may be able to offer non-warranty service.

So basically they're putting it back on the distributor for selling you a shoddy product, not on THEMSELVES for making one?

they basically say that the old pads are ok. silly isnt'it?

I just bought a new MPC1000, confident that I would receive the one with the new pads. Now I'm not sure anymore as this is first MPC so I can't compare the feel of the pads.

The serial is "MPC1000 BK", and not "MPC1000 BK-N"
The back panel is black

I can easily lift off the corners of the pads. Some of the pads make the other move if I move them, but not all of them.

Since I just received it, I'd like to make sure I got the pads, otherwise I'll just send it back.

What do you think? I could open it up but wouldn't know what to look for.

Sounds like you have the new pads if the adjecent ones move with it.
With the old ones it is impossible to move the pads beside them.

Yes they don't move much but they move. It's especially visible with the pad above the one I'm pushing.

I sent an email to AKAI and they said since my serial number is recent the MPC it is likely to have the "retro pad kit pad" [edit]: meaning the newer ones.

why not just open it up and see?

bingo! It's only 10 screws or so....just do it!

Ooooooooor you could push the corner of a pad in- if it gives, you've most likely got new pads

ive gotten the black panel out back, 128mb, and i can pull out the corner of pad 4 easy and pop it right back in! Im pretty sure i have the new pads! also (21)K1 on bottom serial number...

yea your good. You cant do that with the old style pad
