The usb not only powers the oxygen 8 but also transfers the midi data. the connection you might be looking for is the one sparq explained above.

unfortunately, you will need more than just the oxygen 8. b4 i got my audio/midi interface, i tried to connect just the oxygen to no avail. i needed a true midi/audio interface. the one that i am using is the Lexicon omega. it's usb and totally portable. but if you want something different, you can go with something like this: http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--EMU1616 this particular one is a little pricey but considering all that it has, it's worth the money. my lexicon only cost $250"
Hope that helps.

before i bought another midi cable, i tried to do it the way you are describing.... the usb from the O8 to the pc is not only for power, that is your midi connection from the keyboard to the computer. however, you would need another midi cable to go directly from the keyboard to the mpc. since you already would have the usb to the computer, that is in a sense your midi connection to control whatever software you are running. but leaving it just like that, there is no way for the mpc to accurately see the O8. that's why i have a midi cable running between the keyboard and the mpc.

i know this may sound a little jumbled up but i hope you understood it. if not let me know and i will try to reword it.

ah cheers sparq thats cleared most of it up. i've got my keyboard working to trigger samples from the mpc, but how do i make the mpc record incoming midi data, i.e record the notes i play from the synths i use in ableton. do i not need ti hav the mpc connected to the pc as well thru a midi connection, or is it just the midi out of the keyboard into the midi in of the mpc?

Sparq - the other MIDI OUT labeled USB OUT on the Oxygen8 is the same as having another MIDI out coming from your computer. This comes in handy for tracking the MPC with Nuendo, Cubase, etc when this output is assigned through those programs. None of the MIDI data from the controller transmits from the port. Only through the Keyboard MIDI OUT.

Being a Reason user myself, I found this video to be very helpful. Every video you have is excellent Sparq and im sure everyone feels the same. I love my MPC1k and cant wait to get it hooked up with Reason at home. Although one question I do have is what kind of software do you recommend for mixing both Reason (as the module) and MPC (for the drums)? If you have any sugestions of what kind would be easiest to use, or what kind has the best sound quality for a final mix, I (and im sure many others) would appreciate the help.

Thanks again Sparq! Keep up the good work!

Sounds like you need a mixer.... plug the headphones into there to hear both ableton and your mpc.

I followed the video to the tee but the Mpc won't record the midi notes. I have the pcr-80 controller and the e-mu 404 sound card. What I'm I not doing?

Penflod and Sparq good looking on the info and videos. coming some of use need them.

record the midi notes?

dude what r u using?? if your triggering reason sounds from the MPC then its got to record cause your using the MP, if its a controller then the controller has to be going through your MPC to the PC. not to the PC on its own, (how do u expect the MPC to know whats going on ?? its not psyhcic.)

Good Video Sparq. That exactly the setup I use to make like 99% of my songs. I should have my Mbox soon w/ PT and I'm going to start recording using Rewire and adding my MPC sounds through the interface. A video on that would be great if anybody can make one.
