MPC 1K PADS TAKEN APART

Just to add I tried what Poltergeist did, which was put foil on top of the graphite, and pad works 100%..It almost dead, and i was pretty much using full level all the time, and now it works great..

{I initially undid the entire thing which took over 2 hours to do, i placed little pieces of cotton from the end of a Q-tip inbetween each one and the sensor thinking it would work better. it didnt. it didnt work at all ):
so another 2 hours later, i basically wasted 4 hours opening my mpc.}

If it took you 4 hrs to do what you did, something is wrong. You can get the whole machine apart and back together again in about 20 min. What else besides the cotton swabs were you doing in there?

I agree with most on here that the pads are not always the problem. If you respect your tools, your tools will respect you. However, I did have a bad pad, I actually repaired it. It was interesting seeing how they built this machine. It is very well put together! I don't know why so many people knock it. The 25k users (Jahrome) bash it pretty hard. Well, take apart the 25k and guess what you see???? Very simular ie (identical) parts found in the 1k.

The bottom line is don't believe the hype. The only difference between the 1k & the 25k is the physical difference and the OS. If you get down to the nuts and bolts of the two, you basically end up with the same pieces.

IMHO, I'll just order the set of pads from VST and replace them myself. The whole graphite Nym Pad trick is more work than it's worth. $105 bucks for 16 pads is nothing when you look at the bigger picture. Nick and I were talking (from VST) and he agreed that both units are top notch for what they do. So when I need another pad, (chit breaks sometimes, fact of life), I'll just drive up to 'dena and pick them up. Simple as that.

Uhhh....your missing one small little point. Like any other MPC ever made, there is no reason to open up the 2500.

Anyway..my guess is that there will be a signature JJ series MPC 1000XL which improves on the pad design and OS updated so that it has all the features of the 2500 minus the CD burning, 2 additional MIDI outs, and 4 additional analog outputs. Other than that, the MPC 1000XL will make the 2500 obsolete and 2500 users will be selling their MPCs on eBay because...well, just because.

Technically, there is no reason to open or dismantle anything really! Well, I've been taking things apart since I was a kid. Often just to see how things work or are put together. 2k5, 4k, 1k and even the 2ks. They all are just plastic, wires and metal.

But yes, there is a reason to take the MPC 1000 apart. To do a better job rebuilding it.

Personally I think they should of just kept the same pad construction as all the other MPCs..Its what they started with, and it has worked for almost 20yrs..I do understand they wanted some portable, but i think they could of still the same concept...If ain't broke why fix it..See what happens when try to cut corners..
