the easiest way to get full level pads (and that's the way that i did all my tunes for a LONG ASS TIME) is to use durable double sided tape (carpet tape is what i used) to attach squares of tin foil to the back of the rubber pad.
works 100%. it's always full level, though. that would hold you over.
