MPC1000 Hard Drive Recommendations

Sweet... looks like a MIPS processor... RISC style, means more efficient than an Intel Proc'...

very nice...

OC would be cool, but I prefer stability than speed... JMO...

it will allow for faster data transfer to and from your computer. but like i said when i first posted that. this will also require you to take it out of your mpc each time you do this. this is only useful for full hard drive backup. or loading all your samples from your computer for the first time. say if you have over 35gb of samples on your computer that you want to bring over to the mpc. you would connect it to this type of encasing and take advantage of the USB 2.0. it would be faster than leaving the drive in your mpc and trying to transfer 35gb's that way.

too bad the usb port is not upgradeable from usb 1.1 to 2.0...

Bah, just got a kit but the old Travelstar I tried it with was physically too large to fit in the MPC - so I'll have to find a smaller one or just buy one.

Got another one to try, just a random ass Hitachi 38GB - I'm pretty sure any drive will work as long as its thin enough to fit inside the MPC's drive cavity.

They probably just have a list of tested ones so people don't get some shit that doesn't work and go and complain to AKAI about it.

whats up. i got the mount and hard drive lined up and ready to bangoutthehotshyt. btw thanks to everybody on this forum for the help. i was wondering if anyone had a link for the new OS. if i could get a hook up on that it would be appreciated.

On akais website they recomend hard drives which they tested on the 1000. I bought the 40 gig Toshiba matching that exact model number and had no problems.

but keep in mind that Akai likes to recomend the very same pad replacements that just end up breaking again. so there suggestions have become a little hard to trust. to me at least

Yes it worked

I realized a little later that I completely forgot to mention that whether it worked or not. The fact that it worked is what the statement about thinking any old drive will work was about, though

I just added a Samsung HM120JC 120 GB.
Worked without a hitch.

the mpc recognizes up to 130 gig--i put in a 160 gig seagate hd and it worked perfect--but only came up as a 130 gig--either way more storage

Okay, I got the akai mount and a 60g drive and the 1k won't recognize it...a little help here on trouble shooting...I tried reinstalling it...that was simple...fits right in place...do I need to upgrade the OS?...suggestions?
