It is no supprise that you find the timing to be off on the MPC1000 VS the Triton. It's not a matter of some mysterious mojo. Just look at the specs:
Triton sequencer resolution: 192 ppq
MPC1000 sequencer resolution: 96 ppq (same as all MPCs besides 4000 at 960)
96 ppq quantization can be quite noticable at lower tempos. It's also a lot more noticable if you use all well-defined single percussion sounds (contemporary hiphop style) as opposed to a mix of loops, chops, and drum hits off vinyl (old school).
The Triton has the same resolution you get if you use the double-up trick on the MPCs.
I'm thinking of going MPC4000 because of the sequencer resolution thing. It was fine for what I bought the 1k for, but now I want to have more possibilites as far as what I am able to do with a MPC and no computer. Unfortunately for me the 2500 will be 96ppq also.
