MPC 1000 Sequencer OVERRATED !!!

the sequencer on the asr-10 is hella dope to its like the mpc's as far as working in sequences and shit its dope

Hey, I made my first sampled beats on tracker programs years ago - before I even had a PC soundcard! Ah, the old days...

first off any sequencer can be dope, if you put time into learning it! whether it be hardware or software. like j villa said it's all personal preference. I on the other hand can make FL Studio "bang, swing, and sequence" like a MP(speaking for myself ). nowadays cats are quick to hate on gear because they can't sound like their fav producer right away. it takes patients and skills to become a MASTER!!!

The sequencer really isnt that dope. The ability to quickly organize [load] samples and assign them to pads is the best feature, as far as I'm concerned. But the sequencer really falls down in some areas. The inability to set separate loop points for individual tracks is my biggest gripe. Being obligated to create whole new sequences to create switch ups and fills is a major aggravation. Also, when you set timing correct to OFF, then go in and want to create a note repeat section, the timing correct automatically switches to the note repeat parameter you utilized. This is a flaw/ bug.

There are workarounds for the lack of independent loop points, but like I said it's irritating. Since I believe none of the MPC line have independent loop points, this is a general AKAI flaw. If it were limited to the low end 1000, I suppose it would be more forgivable.

What would you do with different-length independantly looped tracks?

Stack multiple variation sequences on the same track to play against a longer backing sample or what have you? If so, you could simply program all the variations into one sequence's track.

If not, there's always Seq Mode copy bars function, which works just fine and is simple.

It would be cool to be able to have multiple sequences playing simultaneously the way FL does, but that's about all I miss from my FL days. It's a very quick workaround with the above mentioned techniques to emulate the layering of multiple sequences.

Note Repeat and Time Correct are the same function as far as the MPC is concerned, so just turn it off when you're done dropping rolls on your beats. It's not a bug. Call it a flaw if you like.
