MPC1000 RAM and CF card Recommendations

Just bought a Kingston Elite Pro 133X 8GB (CF/8GB-S2). Somebody recommended these a while back in here. I've been using these in cameras and they're fine, but somehow - they just seem not to work with my MPC1k.

Screen hangs in the boot and if I enter the card and hit load -> format, it won't get far without running into trouble (hang). Been trying with different partition sizes, file systems etc. No luck.

So - not really a recommendation, quite the opposite.

That's odd it didn't work. I have a Transcend brand card here labelled 133x and it works fine. I have some Lexar's that work too and they say 200x. So I wonder what part of the Kingston's spec didn't "satisfy" your MPC.

Confirmed Working - SanDisk Ultra 30/Mb's/s* 2/4GB, Transcend 133x 2/4GB, Lexar Platinum II 200x 2/4GB.

Somebody mentioned that the front port of the 100o/2500 models can only read up to 4gb

I put an HDD in my 2500 before I ever got into buying 8GB ones, and my 1000 is fine with 2 and 4GB as I mostly only load drums in that machine.

Seems like over the years a lot of people of reported the 8 and 16GB ones working. I think maybe it was found that the Akai stock OS wouldn't go past 4GB but JJOS's will, not positive on that though. But again I know many on here said 8/16GB was a go.

True, thought that it would have been a safe bet.

Luckily they have few Transcend 133X / 4 GBs in stock right around the corner, so I'll try again with those.

I'm a bit worried, if there's some magic bit somewhere that causes these troubles. Checked the Kingston site and the newer CFs even have autosleep etc.

It works perfectly. No crashes whatsoever. Reads as 128mb as expected

Will this work to expand my memory to 128? I got the specs from the MPC Tutor book for the 2500 but I'm still not possitive. Thank you.

Just tried these and they all work.

Transcend 16 GB 133x CompactFlash Memory Card TS16GCF133
Sandisk 8GB
Maxell 8GB maxdata 400x (took a PC format, then formatted in the MPC itself to work)

I bought my mpc 1k used. Upon boot, the MPC says "128mb installed" does this mean I have 256mb inside and it sees the maximum of 128mb or there are 128mb installed and it sees 64mb?

You're good. It was just cheaper for Akai to use 256MB DIMMS and only have it read half, as the 256MB DIMMS are cheaper to source/manufacture.

You see it now too with 1GB CF's. No one makes them anymore so a 2GB one is like $15 and a 1GB is $30.

Obliged. I have a question regarding memory, I loaded all of Goldbaby's 808 kit onto a project, but only have 64 of the drums used. Will only 64 of the drums take up a kit use the RAM or every other drum that is also concurrently loaded?

64 drums = 16 pads x 4 banks(16x4=64)

Hope that answers your question. Load remaining drums into a different program
