MPC1000 RAM and CF card Recommendations

So I guess there's no specific requirements with the cards yea?

Would 4GB be enough?

I understand the 1k comes with a 32GB one.

I think on the first Akai OS's there was a 2GB limit but that seems to have been lifted with the later OS's and is never a problem on JJ OS's. The easiest thing to do is search these threads as you shop and see if there are posts confirming the compatibility.

The ones I posted pictures of of all still easily available online and in stores. BTW the Akai cards are 32MB and 128MB, they are from the days when storage sizes were way smaller.

And yeah, 4GB will hold a lot files and folders. Even maxed RAM you are only dealing with 128MB at a time.

The archives here and and current threads will help you with just about anything on your new machine, so you're definitely in the place to get going quickly on the new machine. There's really good PDF books for sale here too, they come with audio files and Program files to follow the book. those can really speed up the process.

howabout using the "search" function to find the answer to your 1 "simple" question. Let me ask you this, if it was so simple, why couldnt ya figure it out? I will tell ya, because you are LAZY. because I asked that exact same question,almost 4 years ago, and got a "RTFM" which translates into read the **** manual, on this exact same thread i believe. And then i started reading, and reading more. And now this place is like a MPC bible, plus theres some good people here. But you gotta be able to hang.

No. Not unless you have a compact flash adapter. That is a SD card. You need a compact flash card.

I have the same transcend 8GB CF card and it is behaving weird.
It usually freezes during load so i need remove cf card to load rest of the project.
Also it can't be accessed via USB.
Formatted it inside MPC but still the problems remain.
My other two CF cards works just fine.

Yeah same here as Tap said, My Transcend 2 and 4GB ones work fine.

Hi everyone, I'm new - I'm having a problem that I can't seem to find an answer to after hours of reading this thread and searching the site. Apologies if I overlooked something.

I bought an MPC1000BK off craigslist, seller advised me over the phone that it had an issue he hadn't figured out. I talked him into dropping the price. I examined it in the sellers home, it powered on and the screen lit up (blank). I have some experience servicing PCs so I decided to take a chance.

Long story short, I discovered the memory check/play button function on my own, the unit appeared to detect the 128MB memory expansion but failed to pass memory check (resulting in "check memory" error message)

I re-installed the memory expansion and got a blank screen again, after several attempts I powered on the unit w/out the memory expansion and it responded by displaying an error message to the effect that there was no OS detected. I followed procedure for updating Akai OS and now the unit appears to function normally.

After closer inspection I noticed something a little suspicious about the memory expansion that I removed from my unit.

My question is this: does my 128MB memory expansion look damaged?


To my eye it looks like a component may have been knocked off the memory stick.


Aside from chip manufacturer the printed circuit layout appears virtually identical to what I have.

Whether or not I'd have to replace the Main CPU Assembly PCB in the event that the problem lies with the memory expansion slot is of some concern, I think I could do it myself. It would be a great relief if someone were able to confirm that all I need is a new RAM.

I would expect to see some sort of solder pad there, if a component was there and was knocked off, but from your first photo the red 'solder resist' coating on the PCB seems intact, so it looks like there never was a component there.
