My wife has been a stickler for purchasing a warranty on high end items...I've always called it a waist of money...ehhh! :::buzzer:::: I won't drop a stack on anything without a warranty these days...I ain't rich...my second pad is less sensative...I don't think I'm going to wait until it goes out completely

akai will treat your warranty like they don't give a fuk. trust me... i've had a really bad experience with them.

anything warranty related (or any service issue for that matter) will be handled more respectfully and professionally through VST Service. http://www.vstservice.com/
I've done business with VST quite a few times... so i know personally that you'll get treated well.

I feel ya on that one and agree....however the warranty is an extended warranty through Guitar Center...they've been pretty good on what they offer...the first one I purchased had a problem (it wouldn't recognize samples and several pads went out on that one...I had it less than a week...it was a dumb purchase...they sold it as a new but returned item, I jumped on it they knocked $100 off....that was good in the long run...I got a new one after all) I took it back and they gave me a new one....didn't bother to repair it....its a GC warranty....proaudio cat said it was better than the akai warranty (like you said) he told me that if anything goes wrong with it within a year they'll just replace it....everything I've gotten from GC has an extended warranty...the mpc 1k is the only thing I've had to take back...its a great little powerhouse...but I think I want the 2500...better to take it back now, then decide if I'll keep it as part of my studio or sell it...if I sell it I can recoup most if not all of what I paid for it, thats half for my 2500...If I keep it I'll probably let the wannabe's bang on it for studio time...it'll be a great lure for fishin' lol, it hooked me...the three letters alone is like a magic spell on rappers with no equipment...I neva get tired of that reaction... the roland mv8000 keeps haunting me...but this is my first mpc and I love it.

I bought my 1000 at guitar center as well, back in october 2004. If I had known that their extended warranty was that good, I would've purchased it with my MPC as well. But back then, these pad issues and defecte card reader issues were unheard of, and I figured "Hell, it's an MPC... I doubt I'll have any problems. All the previous models were built well". But unfortunately, I was wrong about that. Hindsight is 20/20.

Thanks for sharing your experience with GC's extended warranty here. When I shop there at the Commack LI store, I only deal with one or two people that have taken care of me over the years. So whenever I need to buy anything, they always come through for me with a sweet deal and give, honest opinions and helpful info. Big ups to L.J. and Anthony White! :)

MPC O.G. wrote:As an owner of a mpc 2000xl, and user of every mpc. I can tell you that the 2000xl was the last mpc made worth a damn. sure the 1000 and 2500 have more features but they're fragile when compared to all other mpc's.

This might apply for the MPC1000, as the pad assembly is completly different, but the 2.5K has the same pad sensor and pad's as used in MPC60/60II, MPC3000 and MPC2000/XL. So I really can't see how this is built more fragile?

Btw, even though they changed the PAD's when they made the MPC500, it's not the same pad sheet as in "vintage" models. It's separate pad's and sensors, but still seems better than what's used in the MPC1000. (I really wouldn't know about that though, because the MPC1000 is the only MPC I haven't owned or used for an extended period of time...)

What is it exactly that is failing with the pads ? what part of them?
Im not an owner of an MPC and i have never owned one but im planning to buy one. Im just wondering, is there no way of somehow buying spare pads / or the parts that are failing, that are intended for something else than MPC1000, and putting it in there ?

After being a MPC2000XL user for 5 years and the MPC died on me (pads died+screen died+rotary died after 300+ gigs which is ok for a 'studio machine') >>> I got a new MPC1000.

The MPC1000 pads worked for 2 hours. Now 2 are dead (they do trigger every 10th time they are pressed or so + trigger themselves randomly)

How **** great is this? Let's talk a little bit of quality control on a 1000€ machine. A cheapo plastic MPC1000 that works for a total of 2 hours.

A big **** you to Akai on this one! I have a paying customer and studio booked on monday (friday now) and I have a clicktrack+guides to-to.

I will never buy/trust an Akai product again.

me too (my pad1) went lame a bit ago, 2yr old mpc1k, gigged to death more than 100+ dates, lotsa bashing, i was dissapointed, but it was likely to happen given this amount of work acheived on it. but i recently managed to open it up, remove the pad/cover/rubber bit/conductive bits.

all i needed was a bit of a wipe, as some black off the conductive bit must have rubbed onto the insides and perhaps this was dirtying it up.
i put it back together and (touch wood) its really good now.

i respect that many users wont want to open it up , so im with yall for being peed off. but its obvious that pad 1 allways gets run out first,in my experience i believe its this pad that on average gets used mbe 90% more than others.

I agree with you Nym. If I had of known that the dummies at AKAI were designing the pads instead of the other guys who had been doing them for every other model I probably would have not bought the machine. I mean if I knew that I would have went for the more expensive machine that would be less likely to break on me. I emailed support at AKAI also and the dude was an **** about it. At least give us an apology or something. I mean people do f*ck up but it pisses me off when they profit off of f*ck ups and dont even admit it or come clean about it. Personally I will never big-up this company again and quite frankly I wouldnt mind seeing them go out of business for this s*hit. AKAI Unprofessional.

Man, Im sooo confused!
Ive been reading on this forum for while now and going back and forth on which mpc to buy-500 or 1000. Price is an issue or I would just get a 2500.
So after weighing all the pros and cons of both machines(features and problems people are having) I decided to go with a 1000 thinking Id rather have a machine with more options and deal with the pad issue when it arrises. I ordered it from sweetwater and they were out of stock until the 16th of this month, hmm, maybe theyre fixing something??? Doubtful but you never know. I wont have it for another couple of weeks but the more I read about this sh*t the more confused I become. I almost feel like a total sucker for buying this thing.
any thoughts???

OK... I am concerned that my pads my have a time limit of service life.

soooo....

I recommend that we file a class action lawsuit against them... I can't see why we can't do that, car companies, and yes even Microsoft has been tried and the consumer did win in those cases...

What do you all think?

ahhh man... they are owned by Numark...

so Nym... have you tried calling Numark in resolving the issue with the pad...

I have not kept real close with the pad issue, since my MPC is brand new...

but I just tried calling them and it was Numark...
