In 2007, Akai offered a pad upgrade to add improved performance, retailing at 180 USD. The pad sensors design returned to the design of the pad sensors in previous models. This upgrade has been seen to be pre-installed on the MPC1000BK-N, not the MPC1000 (blue outer casing), or the MPC1000BK

i just saw by looking at the UPC that i had the BK version.

whats really bull is that the Akai mpd16 has the good pads , it has more pieces than just the pads that are for 180 yet the mpd cost about 100 bucks.

what exactly is the problem with the pads. i got my 1k used and it was blue (when i bought it) so by what everyone says it should have sh!t pads. but besides a few hiccups and not being sharp on velocity sensitivity they're decent. will they get worse? and how hard is it to get the "upgrade pads"?

IT DEPENDS...I HAD A BLUE 1K AND THE PADS WERE GREAT UNTIL I SOLD IT...AND I GOT THE BLACK ONE WITH THE OLD PADS AND IT STILL WORKS GREAT...SO I GUESS IT JUST DEPENDS HOW U LOOK AT THEM,AND HOW U PERSONALLY FEEL AND IF U REALLY NEED THEM, KUS UPGRADED PADS HAVE BEEN ON BACKORDER FOR QUITE A WHILE, AND WHEN THEY DO GET SOME MORE, UR LOOKING AT 180$ FOR THEM

Nym droped this mental nuget on me.... He said that the pad design itself is different, single sensor pads instead of one piece with all 16 pad's on. To sum thing's up , A piece of carbon infused rubber is what make's the conection And the glue they used in the single state pads is crap.
My Mpc didn't leave my desk for nada nea nada time, so it's not like it went threw war or nothin. Well one day I notice that alot of em wernt triggering right. Then I had to hit the pads hard in order to trigger.
So I open it up to see what the deal wasand All the pads , I'll say it one more time in a reiteration.
EVERY SINGLE MAFF UGIN PAD WAS F'ed. None of the carbon ruber pieces were attatched .

I opened up evey pad and glued it to the back side of the actual button.
Responds 10 times better than it did, but not as good as new.

.

Keep in mind this was after three or more years of bangin beats , But I know cat that's had the same 2000 for almost a decade and the pad's are still butter.

I just bought the mpd16 for $90 . You can only use two bank's on it which is weird seein as how the mp has 4. But besides that there the bigger pads like on the 2000 etc.Deff plesed with it.

So that in a shell of a nut is whats wrong with the pad's

just to clarify though, even though your old pads are fine, please understand that they are no where near the quality of the upgrade pads. i had the old pads for 2 years and the 1 and 4 started going out. i didnt pay it any attention and just hit it as hard as i needed to so that it would trigger. i thought my pads were fine other than those 2. when i got some money together i ordered the new pads, installed them and was completly blown away. the performance of the upgrade is great. i had never used any other machine to compare to either, so i wasnt familiar with the old style pads.

if your pads are good still, rock 'em. the best way to kill them is to bang them ish's like you are hitting a real drum. be easy on them otherwise you will kill them. when they die, get past the whole f*&k akai thing and cop them pads. you will not regret it.

just my 2 cents though...
