Built to Last?

I've been debating over the last several weeks whether to buy a 2000xl or 1000? I'm leaning on the 1000 and ready to place an order. My final questions is for those who already have one. Is it built to last? I realize it's small but it's not cheeply made is it? Unfortunately I haven't seen one in person so I'm relying on the forum for your opinions.

it's pretty solid IMHO. Plastic sides, but everything else is metal. Only the data wheel seems "cheap", but it's low profile enough not to get whacked in transit, and it hasn't skipped a beat for me.

I second that. I was very positively surprised by it's solid quality feel.

Except for the volume knobs and data wheel, as jk states. Hopefully, it's just the plastic feeling of the knobs/wheel itself and nothing more.

in pictures it looks like a toy. in person it weighs a lot and is mostly made of steel or sumpin. it's heavy duty for sure.

There are a few other things you should consider like do you have a PC, Will you need timestretch, Do you need SMPTE or the other syncing options besides midi clock. If you are trying to get away from your PC when making beats. The 1000 may not be the way to go!

I myself am thinking of getting the 4000, but I want to pay of my student loans first before I make any more big purchases!

yeah - it's hefty and little bit plasticcy, but quite solid i think. however, as soon as mine was out of the box the f1/f2 button have started to sink into the unit...not a lot, but some screw or something has slipped i'm guessing - as i have a gig in 4 weeks to prepare for i don't really wanna waste time sending it back, so i'm hoping if i open it up it will prove to be as simple as that.....please god let it be.......

The 2000xl also has an FX card eb16 I think that is an an extra upgrade. I haven't used it but I bet it rocks!

the eb16 is cool. i used to have one in my s3000xl. i love my 1k but honestly the effects arent nearly as nice as the eb16's. the 1k has a compressor tho (actually 2 cuz u get it on the master bus too).

thinking about it again, i would say the eq is about the same, the phaser is pretty much the same. the reverb is way nnicer on the eb16, as is the distortion (although the bit grunger is totally cool too, even tho it's different). the eb16 has a chorus, flanger, ring modulator, pitch shifter and delays too.
