128 ram load times

hey all. first post from me.

sorry to talk RAM here.

i searched through the RAM-related posts and couldn't find an answer. i'd appreciate some mpc-expert input.

i installed the 128 ram chip into my 1000 with no problems, and the machine goes through the "boot on sodimm memory check" thing, you know, four passes to check the percentage.

it all goes fine, and i end up with the "128 meg installed" screen and everything works.

my question is: Every time i turn on the box, i have to go through this long load process, where the memory is checked four times. it takes between 5 and 10 minutes.

is there any way around this, or any way to have the 1000 recognize the RAM and move past the memory check each time?

sorry for the noobie thing. i just couldn't find the info, and wanted to see if this is normal, etc.

I really don't know, but this sounds kinda strange. My MPC takes about eight seconds from when I power it on to it reaches the main screen.

That doesnt sound right. Are you sure its compatible RAM? Also have you tried removing it and reinstalling?

it should be compatible - i used the giant sticky thread to search out info (bought 256 meg, PC133, 144 PIN CL3 SODIMM....it is 16 x 16, but i read that's not an issue...).

i haven't tried unpopping and re-popping it. is there anything i should know about that, or does it just click back out?

I dont remember if it has tabs or not. Just be gentle when removing it and when you reinstall it make sure it seats properly. Other than that if the RAM is compatible I cant see why you are experiencing such long start-ups.

hey again. thanks for the input, but no luck yet.

i took the RAM out (there are small tabs), put it back in and rebooted, and the 1000 is still doing the long load up.

it really does take about 10 minutes.

am i the only one having this long, 4-pass memory check? nobody else has had this issue? nobody knows a way to bypass, speed up, or auto-confirm the memory check?

would updating the OS (or switching to a JJ OS) do anything for this issue?

appreciate any help i can get.

well the ram is seated properly if it is seen by the mpc.

I dont know in MPCs, but in PCs you would go into the bios to turn that off. You usually would have an option that is called something like quick boot, or something like that

My bet is that you've either got some bad or wrong ram. Just buy a new chip, it's like ten bucks on ebay.

^ yeah, that's sort of what I'm looking for....but i don't know enough about the machine to know how to do this / if this is possible.

^ well, its more expensive to get it to canada, and again, the RAM is being recognized, and its working....its just how long it takes to load. so i'd rather not bail on it yet, if there's any other solution.

If the ram is good, you should not be seeing the memory check screen at all.It will just boot as usual! If u see the check screen its a bad match!

I know when I turn mine on it breifly displays the ram size and thats it. No more than a few seconds on and I am ready to work.

okay - as poundaproblem notes, this ^ is a good point.

but i'm wonderin how to move forward - i could send the RAM back, get a replacement unit, but still have the same issue, if i don't know what to avoid.

as i note above i got the 144 pin Sodimm blah blah....wondering if it is the 16 x 16 issue, or maybe it just has to do with brand name?

i really appreciate the feedback on this. as the machine is unfamiliar, i don't know everything about it (like, if the ram's a good match, i shouldn't see the load screen!)

do y'all think i'd have any success w/ akai's support on this RAM shiznit? or do you think that'd be a lost cause...?
