A little pad advice.....

So i have an mpc 1k with 8 bad pads (i intentionally bought one with pad issues to get it cheap). My intention was to get the pad upgrade ASAP. Obviously, this has become a problem and i'm thinking it is going to take me a long time before i can actually get it.

I can get the old style pads for under $50, or the new pads for $180. I can get the old pads in a few days. I'm thinking about going that route, i know they will break eventually but maybe not in the time i own it, i don't know. If actually never owned one long enough for a pad to go bad. I know it differs between people, some pads will just go bad more quickly, etc. The main thing, i want to be able to competently drum on the machine live so that will probably be it's main use (or abuse i should say-I will still be using it for beats).

By spending alot of time just drumming on it, i just feel like i'm upping the abuse tremendously. However, my other concern would be buying the new pads and having them last too long and having the pad upgrade being discontinued.

Anyone think it's a really bad idea to get the old pads for the time being (i'm sure there are a few lol).

i'll send you 8 old pads for a good price. board included. i got the upgrade just recenty. it'd be worth your while to do the same. i was in your boat and bought a 1k on ebay with dead pads for a bargain price. i ordered replacement single pads b/c of the back-order on the upgrade and even those pads were gone in a matter of months. its worth sweating it out for the pad kit. there are easy ways to work with dead pads in the mean-time, though (which DON'T require removing a screw from the mpc...) as long as you're willing to suffer through full-level (though i wouldn't recommend it for live use)

Full level isn't really an option for me right now. 4 are actually dead right now (2 are my fault for trying to fix them myself) so i have menu issues. I can switch these around but having that many not even work has challenges. Because the mpc isn't my main piece obviously, as i just bought it, it's not a big deal waiting it out. I know it's smartest. Just knowing i could have this thing up and running in a week makes me figure i should just waste the $50. Knowing my luck, as soon as i make up my mind and get everything replaced, the new pads will be off back order though. I know it's not the smartest idea, cost is an issue as well, although i planned to buy the upgrade, but the pads will enivitably go out. Will i still own it though, i don't know.
