What's So Dope about a Patched Phrase??

I'm still fairly new to the MP 1G, im f***king with JJ Evans III (lol) Im curious about the patched phrase tho. I presume it has something to do with spreading a samp over the pads in different ptiches. How is it done. I messed with it but im trapped in ignorance .I'm thinking That would be good for my Basslines. Let me Know! or Where i can find some knowledge

a patched phrase works in a similar fashion to ACIDized WAV files.... Basically it's chopped in a way that will follow tempo changes, so it will always be the same length in beats.

that is awesome...i didn't know that. I have a 500 but i plan on getting a 1000..i plan to still keep my 500 though,it's a badass little machine.

PP sucks, never use it.

the 500 doesnt have this, but i can already see how this can be useful...it depends on what your creating, so it doesnt necessarily 'suck'...like i said, i have a 500 and this is not available. It would be a good feature for me. Peace.

It´s too inflexible.
You basically chop up a loop but can´t rearrange those chops at all. It will only give you a usable result with drumloops (with space between the hits). You cant have the loop playing from any point other than the very beginning.
The comparison to acid´s tempo matching is misleading, it´s not timestretching and you can´t rearrange the loop.

Yes indeed

They're right. Only for drum loops it's good but thats it. I rarely use but it could come in handy if you like using drum loops.

Have to disagree with the naysayers on this one. I'm new to the 1000, got mine last month and have only done a few projects with it at this point, but on the current one I'm working on I decided to try patched phrase as well as sliced samples for a drum break I sampled off vinyl. (Why not try both?) So I ended up using the patched phrase version for a few tracks; I don't know, maybe it's just the particular break you're using that will make it sound good or not. One thing that sucks is that it converts the sample to mono automatically and I'm pretty sure there's no way to change that. Still, it's a tool to play with if nothing else. You might find some use for it down the road depending on the drums you use.

ps--Forgot I wasn't on the JJ OS forum; I should admit that I'm using JJ OS 2 ver. 1.21

The only use for PP is when you are on a mission to figure out every feature of your OS. Down the line you become a better beatmaker and realize the hassle of PP, it only works ok on drum loops and the inflexibility of it makes it not so useful, and therefore you stick to regular chopping.

Some one said it perfect...it's a gimmick. Nothing more nothing less.
