The Ram for the MPC1000 is proprietary so you will have to buy theirs.

Yeah, I just bought the EXM128 akai Ram. I don't think I'm ever going to use all the 128megs though.
However these guys found some non akai RAM that works: http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... c&start=90
The problem is that for some reason the 1000 only uses half of the non AKAI Ram. For exampl if you buy a 128meg card, the 1000 will only use 64. However the RAM is a lot cheaper and 64 is plenty. As you can tell by how long the thread is that these techies where working on it for a long time. I didn't really care, had some extra cash at the time so I bought Akai's RAM.
Who know's maybe in the future I'll do a whole concerto or something!

actually, i had ram left over from my titanium powerbook i tried it in my new mpc1000 and it was recognized and works perfectly.

it was generic no brand memory i ordered online from a discount memory dealer. unfortunately it was over i year ago so i cannot tell you where etc....
there is a sticker on it that says:
hynix made in korea
pc133s-333-542
256MB sync 133Mhz CL3
128Mb shows up. i had this memory lying around. dealram.com has similar ram listed for as cheap as $49.

Yup, it basically only recognizes half of the RAM's value. At 49.99 that's less than half the price of the exm 128. That's a steal! The exm goes from $110-170! All you peeps that didn't upgrade take note!

i just want to add that your mileage my vary. so don't come running for me if it doesn't work or something worse happens...
having said that i did manage to test two sticks of the abouve ram and they both worked just fine.

If you got the cash I would buy the Akai ram. I didn't want to experiment and possibly void any warranty or cause damage to the unit. To me the extra 50 bucks or so wasn't worth the time spent experimenting.
