midi triggering

could anyone shed some light on what i would need to do (process and gear) to use my 1000 as a brain unit for some drum pads or triggers on acoustic drums?

i'm pretty new to the programming/sampling world, but i'm guessing that i'd just need to get the signal from the pad/trigger via 1/4" tranferred to MIDI via something(??), then set up the mpc to recieve the signal and align it with one or more pads.

any help would be awesome, thanks!

You can buy those midi drum pads and they will work just fine, but I think you are better off using the pads on the mpc. I have thought about getting some drum pads also but I think it would be a waste of money. Its up to you. All you need are tha midi cables and your set.

just to clarify... i am a drummer, and i'm looking to add my mpc1000 to my acoustic drum kit. so i would need to either trigger samples via external pads or triggers. (unless you suggest i swing at my mpc with drumsticks ha!)

any suggestions for pads or triggers would be awesome.

PS - just checked more and it looks like a ROLAND TMC6 Trigger MIDI Converter is what i might need. its 250 on musicians friend. are there any other options?

I'm a drummer also.
Now I'm using the TMC6 works great !! (got a DDrum basstrigger, Ddrum snaretrigger, and 4 PD7 pads (roland) )
I can send the sounds on the pads to the different outputs on the MPC1000. (the PA front can mix my bassdrum, snare and samples seperately)

You can also buy a Alesis DM5 for trigger 2 midi, but not the D4 because this one really sucks... (EXT TRIG options are - got one myself also)

Another option is a roland SPD 11, 20 or an octapad. But I prefer the TMC6 and the Alesis DM5 so you can chose the pads/triggers you like in your set-up. (spd takes al lot of room and isn't that pretty)

One thing to note is that the MPC1000 only plays one program at a time via external MIDI, the one selected in the selected Track on the Main page. Probably not a problem in your plan, since you'd only need to play one at a time. Assign MIDI Program Changes to the MPC Programs you're using, then your trigger unit can change the MPC program, maybe even via footswitch (Alesis DM) .

the roland TMC6 looks rock solid...but its expensive (correction...i'm cheap)

how about the roland PM-16??? anyone?

it looks like its got 16 inputs, and some presets, and would accept 1/4" trigs and spit out midi. hopefully somone can tell me if i'm crazy because this thing is like 40 bucks used.

yea I probably wouldnt swing at the mpc with a drum stick either.
