Tempo? (on the mpc 1000)

Whats goen on everyone. I've been having some trouble finding the tempo of my samples so It ends up being out of sequence with my drum pattern if that makes sense.. anyone got some tips? I got the jjos if thats any help..

you need to practice with timing. all music is based around timing. 3\4 4\4 or what ever. most rap or hiphop is 4\4. that means 4 bars and 4 beats per bar. try to tap the tempo of the sample you are working on. it will get you close. then you can make small adjustments up or down untill your sample loops properly. practice it with whole loops just to work on the timing. then do it with your samples chopped up.

i tried tap tempo.. my timing is really off because the different tempos i get ranged between 10 bpm of eachother. i guess its just practice then to really get it down...

Oh, and how do u feel about the tempo detection feature?

I tried that but its better to detect the tempo by listening and doing it by ear.

sort of related... is there any way to set up the mpc, while in program mode, to sync to an outside clock from a sequencer? the problem i'm having is, some of my samples are up to a couple minutes in length. if i don't hit the pad perfectly on the beat, the entire sample is off. i use the mpc live and it would really help if there were a way to correct my imperfections.
