Thinking about going to JJOS, but ....

Thinking about moving over to the JJOS with my 1000.

Couple of quick questions :

1) Can I use my CF card with the samples and songs I have saved on there - will JJOS be able to recognise and read the files that are already there ?

2) I have read how to switch over to JJOS, but where can I get hold of the basic Akai OS that I have installed at the moment, just in case I need tk go back to for some reasons or other ? Is it a case of just going back to the Akai Pro Website ??

yes

1) Yes you can use the songs/samples, though you may not have 100% compatibility with songs/programs... it depends on what features you used and may have been broken during the different revisions.

2) Perhaps you should look on the akai pro website? It is there.

I have, however, decided to remain with the Akai OS. I basically just make my beats with the MPC and record them straight into Cubase .... and the Akai system works fine for me right now in this regard ... as the ol sayin goes : 'If it ain't broke, don't mess with it' !!.
I must admit that what ultimately killed off the thought of JJ was the reported problem with Midi syncing that has been reported with JJ. My system really does work both sweetly and flawlessly in this respect currently with the Akai and I have no desire to mess with any aspect of something that works incredibly well for me. I do like the look of the 'Grid Edit' function on the JJ, though - reminds me very much of my computer based software.

I would still consider it. The workflow on JJ is very strong and simple. The movements and button combos to complete a task in the Akai OS is chopped in half or more, which lets throw off the chains of thinking about key combos and you can make beats quicker.

But your workflow is your workflow and you know what is best for you.

Using the akai os with the MPC 1000 is like learing to drive a car in a traktor. do your self a big favour and get the JJOS and jump into the driving seat of sports coupe.

Punarnee ( now there's a thought, eh ?!! ) and Nym .... although I am not an overly superstitious chap, life has often taught me that if something works for you as is, then sometimes it best not to p.ss with the arrangement, u know !
The other thing I failed to mention is that my Akai OS is the 2.11 version and not their latest 2.12, which has also been reported as slightly buggy in itself. So, lets say I did go over to the free JJos and discovered that I indeed had a few oddities that mess with my workflow, then I wouldn't even have the option of going back to the 2.11 Akai os which works so well for me right now ? A risk I just don't need right now .....

I think the free version lets you toggle between it and the Akai OS... don't be chicken, try it..

But, once again, as I can't go back to the Akai 2.11 OS, I do not want to change over to JJ only then to face having the Akai 2.12 OS to return to afterwards ?!! I would want the 2.11 which is no longer available to me. if I could find it's file in my MPC and save it, I would ... but, how is this done ??

Hey, thanks for sending that, Rinse, but, sadly when I tried to open the rar file, it advised that the file was corrupt and had an unexpected end of archive ??

Any chance you can check your folder over and perhaps do a re-send ?

If I can have a copy of the 2.11 os to revert back to, I would not hesitate to give the JJos a good whirl ....

the joke is, after all this worry once you have gone jj you won't go back to akai os unless it is to finish a pjct. jj is stable. or you can just wait to find your fav beat folder missing everything (which is a fcking cnut).

end of the day, why do you think people are willing to fork out for jj, cus they want to support the cause or cus they want a more powerfull os???
