Constant interference in record mode but only from the left?

I am new to the forum so first of all let me say "Whatsup!" to everybody here. I've been lurking for a little while now and I think you've got a nice little community, full of insightful and above all helpful individuals. Kudos!

Now onto the problem at hand...

I am receiving a large amount of interference from my Numark TTi turntable whenever I switch it on and enter record mode, but only ever from the left. Needless to say, this means I can't record in stereo without hearing the buzz from the interference.

I have quite a large amount of electrical equipment surrounding my Numark, including the MPC1000, my modem, my router, my stereo and my computer. So the logical conclusion would be that one of these items would be causing the problem, right? Well, I unplugged everything (minus the MPC) and plugged the Numark into an empty power socket on another wall of the room and still had no luck correcting the problem.

I tried switching up the RCA adapters that I'm using to plug the TTi into the MPC and that made no difference either. I tried moving the MPC further away from the turntable but that also failed to make a difference.

Does anyone else have any idea what could cause interference from the left only?

Ps. Just incase I didn't make it clear... My Numark TTi turntable is plugged directly into my MPC1000 via a pair of RCA adapters. That (plus a pair of headphones) totals my gear.

try switching your left and right going into the mpc and see if its the turntable's left or if its the mpcs left that has the issue.

also if you have wires overlapping try to cross power cords and audio signal wires perpendicularly. (+ instead of =)

Took your advice and switched the cables around. Now the interference only comes thru the right... So I guess we can conclude that it's def coming from the Numark's left...

Any suggestions on what I should do now that I've identified the problem?

OK, sorted it out.

Flipped the Numark over and found that it was set on RCA LINE instead of RCA PHONO. As soon as I flicked the switch over it eliminated the buzz.

Only problem is the sound is much, much thinner coming through PHONO than through LINE.

I guess the only way to fix that is to purchase a mixer, right?

or amplifier of phono some kind.

Is it possible that this could be a gain staging issue?

I've noticed that if I turn the gain up on the turntable and turn the gain down on the MPC, it eliminates the buzz somewhat... Not completely, but considerably.

If that's not the case, here's what I'm thinking...

Leave the turntable on phono and purchase a phono pre-amp to amplify the signal before it hits the MPC. As you've probably already guessed from our discussion on line outs, the turntable has its own built-in preamp... But (assuming it's not a gain issue) it's clearly not getting the job done right. :\

Do these sound like reasonable ideas?
