MPC1000 FAQ in progress

OK: call me presumptuous, but I've made a start on a Frequently Asked Questions document for the Akai MPC1000: http://stereoroid.com/sounds/mpc1000/faq.php

So far I've covered questions about the CF card, USB interface, a few sampling questions etc. To come: more on Pads, MIDI notes, and using external sound modules. Most of these issues are unique to the MPC1000.

I know the correct place for this is http://www.mpc-tutor.com/faqs/ and I expect a FAQ will end up there eventually, whether it's mine or someone else's (I don't mind). But I see the same questions appearing here over and over, and thought I should make a start.

Got something for the FAQ? Post it here, or send me a private message, please. (I'm going home now, offline for about 15 hours.)

To the Boss: I don't see a forum policy about this, but if there's a better way to do this, I'll be happy to do that or help out in any way.

How can I tell if my turntable mixer has a RIAA preamp? I sample from my 1200 to Vestax to Fantom-S, and it sounds fine...should I expect the same sampling to an MPC1000?

I remember this question, I thought "Clear On Load" was the answer. There are different opinions on what this function does exactly. I think it does like the manual says, clears everything, but a few experiments are in order...

Is the Vestax a DJ mixer with a "Phono" input? If so, the preamp's in there. If you tried going straight from SL1200 to the Fantom, it would probably sound awful.

There's different SL1200 models, I just pulled down the SL1200 MkV manual from http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMAN ... 200MK5.PDF
No preamp in the turntable, you must use proper "phono" inputs, or you get weak sound. I'll adjust the FAQ to mention the Phono inputs.

clear on load leaves all seq's and songs intact

Yes, there is a phono...and I have been going through the Vestax to the FS to record audio. Thanks!

I thought someone used a blank program. ie- boot up the machine with nothing loaded..no samples, no sequences, no programs, no songs...then save that as a "Save All" type of patch. Then any time you load that patch, which is extremely quick, you end up with everything dumped from memory.

Has anyone tried this? If not, I will soon, it's a good idea for the FAQ...
