Sync Problem \ MPC 1000 => Cubase SX3

Hi to every one,

I have a problem with the sync between MPC and Cubase.

When i record my sequences track by track from the MPC to Cubase, i have a delay which is create as one goes along.

I made some tests :

- MTC SYNC
- MIDI CLOCK SYNC
- I check the option "follow the project" in Cubase

Anyway, in spite of the different parameters i ve tried, i always have differents loops ?!?

Weird thing, but i never have the same loop.

Does someone already made this test?

The test is :

I let turn a loop, a sequence, that i record at least 4 times, then i compare the 4 bars of each loops. => I never have the same loop !!!

Does someone already see this?

if you wanna track out , use mtc...midi clock is not frame accurate..

1>set cubase to send MTC, not midiclock,.set your frame rate to 25, start time 00h:00m:00s:00f
2>set mpc 1000 to slave using MTC, frame rate 25. set start time of 1.1.1.1 to 00h:00m:00s:00f.
3>using seq edit, insert one empty bar at beginning of mpc sequence, to accomodate for the startup chase 'glitch'.
4>record away!

I don t see it in the MPC, and no ether in Cubase.

Are you using the jj operating system or the original akai one as im pretty sure that the original O.S. doesnt read or transmit Midi time code...?

yeah i'm usin jjos....come to think about it last akai os i remember using with mtc was on my old 2kxl...oops!

No, Cubase SX3 doesn't send MTC ... just midi clock ! I think that is a big part of your prob.

No, the problem is not that the MP and SX are not sync, it s that they are sync differently on every loops.

What do you mean different on every loop...? I asume both the mpc and cubase are set on the exactly the same tempo so what is happening different from one loop to another...? and why are you looping...? are you attempting to go over one section in cubase over and over again while keeping the mpc running in sync....?

No. What he's trying to say is that a sequence that you programmed on the MPC will play off-beat when synced as a slave to Cubase using Midi clock. You get the same beat, at the same tempo, but with odd "on the fly" quantize… Plus there is that awful inertia when you stop your DAW and the MPC actually keeps running for a while and then stops after some delay…
I, and lots of other people are having the very same problem. It's just like if Cubase changed the swing and timing of the MPC's internal beat, randomly. The problem occurs with almost all MPC models and most DAW's and nobody including Akai seems to have a solution for now.


I'll be ugrading my JJ OS Free to OS1 in the next days and see if MTC brings a solution. At least the possibilty to use the MPC as master and Cubase as slave?

Ok! It worked : JJ OS1 with MPC set to slave using MTC and it finally syncs to Cubase Studio4 without a glitch. Hope that helps...
