problems with sound quality of vinyl samples

i get samples two ways: i either upload a song from itunes into garageband cut them down and then trim it with my mpc OR i take samples directly from my turntables. the samples from teh turntables sound filtered, like its all just one fuzzy sound theres no distinction or bass. i dunno isnt vinyl supposed to sound better?

better is a relative word.

your mp3's are leveled up... vinyl is raw, you need to eq, filter, compress, normalize or whatever else to get that sound you want.

i spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes just eq'ing and filtering samples before they ever reach my mpc... often times two or three times for one sample (low, mid, high) depending on if i want to layer, and that's after spending a good 10 minutes running level tests and shit prior to recording. you gotta spend the time to get the sound you want!

are you using a damaged needle? Are you running the TT thru a cheap mixer thats ruining the sound? Are you using damaged records? THese are the things that need to be addressed. Ive sampled off of everything and there is no comparison to a record so maybe theres an equipment issue somewhere in the chain

Not true. Chances are whatever you're sampling has been recorded and mixed in world class facilities. Regardless of whether its delivered to you on wax or in mp3 format. Chances are you'll want to eq, filter compress, (etc.) your samples no matter where you get them from. Of course processing your samples is not required, its a matter of taste and what you are trying to achieve.

Check your wax and check your equipment (TT, cartridge, mixer/phono preamp, cables, etc.) like poundaproblem said. Matter of fact what is your setup?

The above questions are spot on....

But here is another question... Are you using a mixer in between the Turntable and the MPC???
