Midi Mapping question

the mpc1000's midi mapping is kind of bizaar in my opinion. changing it to be more chromatic (jog wheel changes only) is a bit of a pain in the ass. is there a more convient way to map chromomatically with the mp? is there a file i need to load, make, or save without having to do endless assignments?

I did it all manually, which was a pain, but I only had to do it once. I call it the "Blank Melodic" PGM, you can download it from my site (link below, file is at the bottom of my page). All 64 notes are mapped from 35-98. What I do now is:
- load up BLANK-MELODIC.PGM
- immediately rename it and save it in the same directory as the samples I'm going to map.
- map the samples and save again
The result is a multisampled program that also works great played from an external MIDI keyboard...

Anyone experimented with laying out one octave per page? I'm thinking something like this:



So changing pages simply shifts it up or down an octave.
Disadvantage: You only get 4 octaves total, instead of 5.
