geek questions

Does anybody know (or care
if the laptop sized hard drive in an MPC1000 is spinning all the time when the unit is on,
or just when you are reading / writing to the drive?
I know - stupid geeky question...

To be more geeky... it is always spinning due to the rotation of the earth.

When you're not reading/writing though the drive spins down and the heads are parked.
