Can I export samples and MIDI to a PC?

Hi,

I’m thinking about getting myself an MPC 1000 and was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions on it for me?

My plan is to use it as a way of jamming and throwing sequence ideas together when I’m not in the studio (and importantly not having to look at a computer monitor which I do all day). The idea being I could load in the samples I’ve taken and loops I’ve created in Cubase/Live and then play about with them whenever the mood takes me.

What I want to know is what options are available to me to export what I’ve created back out into Cubase (or Live)?

I know I can get Cubase (/Live) to control the MPC and vice versa, but ideally I would want to move everything back to the computer so I can have a completely self contained Cubase (/Live) project.

I appreciate that any effects I’ve used will need to be resampled but assuming the sample is played dry could I export out any changes (e.g. chops) I‘ve made?

Can I export MIDI files (track by track, patters/songs etc.) or do I need to route it out and record it?

Finally, does anyone know where I can pickup a new MPC 1000 in the UK for under £699 which seems to be the going price everywhere I look at the moment?

Dolphin music do the mpc 1000 for about 500 smackers in liverpool!!!!!

Cheers, I did a search for exporting the samples, guess I should have also looked for the MIDI

So, regarding the samples, is it easy to export the samples with any chop points that have been added so they match the MIDI data?

From that comment I assume you are looking at JJOS2XL because as far as I'm aware it's the only OS with non-destructive chop.

I'm pretty sure I read that chop points are saved with a sample, not the sequence, as I'm sure I saw mention of reusing chopped samples in other projects without having to redo the work. Exactly how it stores this as metadata or what would be able to read it and translate into something a computer DAW would understand I'm afraid I don't know. Would be nice if somebody came up with a .rex <-> .wav (jjos non-destructive chop/loop) converter

Ha, I have no idea, my knowledge of the MPC is limited to what I have seen on YouTube and read on the Akai site, as well as what I’ve managed to get from this and other forums. I just had this idea for how to use the MPC as a way of sequencing my loops without having to be in the studio staring at yet another computer monitor. The MPC methodology fits very well with the way I produce now, except currently I use Live to get my basic ideas down before transferring everything to Cubase to finish off. I figured the MPC could easily replace Live as a portable and computer monitor free way of working, it was just getting the stuff back onto the computer I was a little sketchy about.

Got myself an MPC 1000 from Dolphin music in Liverpool today, cheers for the tip. Now just need to figure out how to use it
