Velocity Curve

Updated the OS last night and saw new Velocity Curve option in pad sensitivity screen. Didn't have time to investigate fully and won't get another chance until later today. Any feedback on this option yet?

Only had the MPC for 3 - 4 weeks and already made more beats than I did with the RS7000 in a few years. It's a great piece of kit for getting ideas down quickly.

new pad sensitivity / function setting F'ing rocks!! there are now 16 sensitivity settings (as opposed to 5) and four velocity curves. They seem to increase in sensitivity from A-D, meaning that you can get the most velocity variations with D (and the least with A). Good work Akai, keep the tweaks coming...

when i'm not using with the "full level" function, it is extremely hard to reach the velocity value of 127 (except if you heat the pad with a hammer). I recently update the OS to try to fix the problem, and try to set the other/pad menu, but it is still almost impossible to reach the velocity 127 hitting the pad !! and even worse, the pads don't react the same way !

Have you got some info concerning this problem?

I had this same problem and ended up returning several machines. Some pads felt perfect, others couldn't get loud enough (unless they were at full level). Even adjusting in the velocity page (hidden is OS 1.03) I could never get all the pads to feel the same. I tested this by making a new program and putting the same kick in all 16 pads and then watching the midi velocity while I tapped them. No amount of adjusting made them even. Some triggered full velocity with only a light touch, others I had to hit as hard as I could to get near 127. I returned them all and was going to wait till Akai adressed this. I was hoping OS 1.04 (with it's extra velocity levels and curves) might fix this, but it doesn't sound like it. I wonder if it's the quality control on the pads/piezos themselves? :(:(

I agree. I posted in a few places, but it only seeed like a few people had this problem. It can't be that isolated. I LOVE the MPC and can't wait to get one that's right. Unfortunately I sold my 2000xl when the 1K was announced. When I brought back my first (of 3) to The Guitar Center in NYC the salespeople were like "we've had perfectionist customers like you before". I've had several MPC's and this is not right. I think the solution is to bring it back and try another batch in a few months. For me the 1K is a "must have". Hopefully in a few months I can find one that works like it should.

When i normalize a sample, usually that problem goes away, thats just me though, different people have different ways of doing things.........

i had the same problem you guys are having (needing to elbow drop my mpc to get the velocity level even remotely close to full level). i posted about this awhile ago as well...

well i am very happy with my 1000 now, but that is only because i kept exchanging mpc's at guitar center until i got one whose pads felt nice and sensitive. ( i am on my third one right now...similar to dinerdog except the scumbags at guitar center didn't really hassle me about switching them out so much).

if you can you should just exchange your mpc as soon as possible, until you find one with properly functioning pads.

....its too bad akai is just sketchy with their production consistency.

i notice after a while if you just keep pounding on the pads the ish will eventually be consistant. it just needs broken in.I usually just bump my beats on full level anyways though so **** whatever i said.. if you look for problems they will show up. there was a bunch of problems i had with he 2000xl. it seems like everyone keeps forgetting how that used to **** up every once and a while as well.

I agree with buzzcut. I have had my mpc for about 2 weeks and the pads I use the most, seem to be more sensitive. I am assuming that they have been a little more broken in than the others.

The other thing is, if I adjust the pad sensitivity in the new menu they all seem to be able to reach 127 without much effort. But not all the pads end up with the same setting/number.

I remember using v1.03 and all of the pads had slightly different setting (in the old hidden velocity screen) Could this mean they were tested at the factory and set up accordingly. I am pretty picky about my gear, but I don't think I got a bad one, I just think they are all goind to be a little different.
