Talked to DigiKey, this is what they have:

It looks a little backwards (the connector pins). I'm going to pull my MPC apart to look at it to see if this will work.

question, did you ask for an equivalent, or for the same product?

it'd be nice to both have a cheap way of buying the existing encoder and also nice to have options of better encoders. a better encoder might mean a PCB mod - easy enough.

i think im getting rid of my mpc. this thing needs to be fixed on way too many fronts. that NI maschine looks a bit more my speed.

@Nym - I asked for an equiv one. This is the one that they carry that is equivalent according to the specs on conrad.de. I spoke to one of their Tech reps via a tech chat (after getting xfrered about 3 times to move up the technical chain). This new one is created by Panasonic, who, hopefully makes some better parts.

I took apart my MPC and it looks like this one will work. I think I'm going to order one up and see how it goes because my encoder has a mind of its own right now.

@rb - I agree, this thing does have way too many problems. I understand an occasional failure, its mechanical, its bound to happen, but sh_t, this kind of stuff happens all the time. However, the workflow with JJOS and the sound that I can get from this little machine is hard to beat.

Just ordered two (just in case one is bunk) ... I'll let you know how it goes when I get them an install them. Perhaps I'll record it too. Then you can see my wicked (sarcasm) solder skills.

what about pattern flipping tricks on maschine? different sequencing methods? software integration (ableton)? the list goes on.

the mpc does sound solid. but i personally believe thats solid timing, nothing else. i bet my presonus firebox converters sound better than an mpc.

penfold - in this case, the inquisition has all been done FOR me. massive thanks and props to Olson and Zombeast. this is really really good for 1000 users, it's yet another demystified part.

regarding the "constant fixing" - it's because of having to fix my 1000 every now and then that i got into basic electronics that have since saved me tons of money/allowed me to build my own midi controller, so i don't mind. especially if i'm upgrading my parts.

regarding maschine: it sounds like a badass platform
