How to use MPC1000 as MIDI controller w/ Logic & NI ???

Hi,
A bit green here with a very beginner question, so much so, that I don't even see it addressed in the manual.

I want to play what ever sounds from Logic's software instruments, Reason, NI, etc. with the MPC, not my keyboard.

I don't want the MPC to necessarily be the Master, as I will record the MIDI performance and do the loop editing in Logic.

Just want to play the drum sounds on pads not keys.

Need a full walk thru because I'm not even getting any read on my MIDI interface from the MPC.

My set up is:
Mac Pro
Logic Pro 8
Fastlane MIDI interface
MPC1000

I really appreciate any help on this.
