Programming a laptop keyboard to act as "hot-keys"

This may be a ametuer question but, is there any music software programs out there that allow you to program your laptop keyboard as "hot-Keys" to trigger .wav samples; so it would imitate a MPC1K or some other stand alone?

That page you recommended has some virus somewhere in the software. Are there any other programs you might recommend that can go along with your music software?

chekc out harmony-central.com, or searching through google. Most software multi-trackers include a "virtual" keyboard already.

Tru4 what kind of virus? Are you referring to spyware? I use programs downloaded from that site (Audacity, Soliton and Stomper). My virusscanner didn't detect a virus.

I don't know, it may be my virus software that detected something when I tried to download it... I use the standard virus detector on my Windows XP.

If you can find any freeware sampler, but don't have the hotkeys, try http://www.midiox.com/ . They do MIDI-OX, which has an excellent keyboard MIDI function with octave switching. If you need to route MIDI between applications, they also do MIDI-YOKE, which gives you eight virtual MIDI buses.

A real MPC imitation for the PC is Native Instruments' Battery, but that's not cheap... http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?battery_us

Ableton (for the hotkeys)... syncs wonderfully to the MPC1k.

Add a VirusC and you've got my live rig.
