Cursor Button Needs Excessive Force? Arggh...

What's going on with these garbage tact switches?? I bought my 1000 brand new 6 months ago, and my second cursor button just died on me. Well, it turns out it responds if I really lean on it-- something I don't plan on doing. I replaced the first one myself a few months ago. Good thing I kept that soldering iron.

Am I the only one going through buttons this fast??

what a piece of dime store craaaaap... this thing deserves better components.

yea my mode tact switch and down tact switch took a dump. Thanks to ebay I will be good by the weekend.

I guess I'll quit complaining and just appreciate the soldering practice...

Pound, could you point me where you're getting the switches? I might as well stock up for the long haul

I believe the specs were 6 x 6 x 5mm high. You can get like 20 for $2.00

sometimes contactspray(not the corrosive one) performing wonders with switches....

especially metal contactswitches, what i thing they are ,

greasing them also, to increase livespan.

That one brought my 1k back to life. Almost every damn tact switch need to be replaced on my mpc, but the contact spray keeps me going fo a while.

i suppose that the faulty! swiches are cheap chinese parts!
it would be interestin to know in which mpc s , blacK/ blue/ made in china or taiwan,
they re build in!
the use sequence is also relevant with the time report of the beginning damage.
it may be that it s a complete faulty production of these swiches!

we saw that also on pc mainbooards with bad constructed chinese capacitors.....

i had an early blue one, chinese, and now a bk black new one, not so much used,
in each cases, swiches were/ are ok! how long?? we see-.

I've got a mate who's heavy handed as ****... i'd kill the bastard if he came near my MP!

But yeah, being a newer MPC user requires soldering skills however basic they might be.

it cannot be that these switches in a 900$ machine are dying within 2 years!!!

it must be a faulty production.

normally this type of switches are constructed for dying after tact frequence of 100 000- 200 000 times.

in normal use this means a live span of 5-10 years .

The Tact switched Akai used are super cheap, all plastic construction and definitely can not stand up to the same abuse a standard electronics store tact switch can.

they cut corners.

sucks but atleast they are easy to replace with the proper tools.
