Chop Shop

hey i searched for this info and couldn't find it, sorry if there's another thread.

i just dug the mpc out for the first time in a few months and upgraded the os to 2.12 ( i think.. .the newest akai one). Up until now i've had a pre-chop shop OS, so i'm just starting to use it...

when i try to auto chop something, i can't get it right - either the pieces are way too big or they are so small it's ridiculous (like three chops in the same snare sound) with big gaps anyway. How do i set the sensitivity/recovery/threshold so it will work? Or do people just not use this feature and equal chop instead?

also - for info purposes, threshold is the point at which the MPC will start recording/make a chop, yes? so if it's lower there will be more chops? What do the other two control?

I use the chop...But never auto. I always adjust the time.......Most the time , if theres drums I chop 4 bars to 16 or 8 to 32......If theres no drums I tend to cut at the note changes...


I use the JJ os tho......Phuq Akai !.....lol

so basically you just chop manually for instrument loops and chop equal parts for drums?

see - that's what i was doing before, i was just hoping that auto chop shop would make life easier... but i also have a few breaks where i want to separate each individual hit and i was hoping getting the threshold etc right would make it chop reasonably accurately at the start of each hit...

ChopShop isnt the greatest and to me its prob faster to just manually chop everything, once u get into the swing of things its really not that time consuming....

f'real, thats what i do. chopping manually works better for me. it's so much more better.
