pads?

ive only just discovered mpcs and im definitely gonna get one. im a drummer and have always been interested in sampling. so when i found out about the mpcs i nearly creamed myself!! after much research and deliberation i want to get either the 1000 or the 2000xl. i really want the 1000 but ive heard its not as enjoyable to play. ive seen that newer 1000's have new 'upgraded pads', what are they like in comparisson to the 2000xl and does that mean every black 1000 has upgraded pads? or are there some black mpcs with horrible plastic pads? because im gonna have to buy one second hand so i want to make sure what im getting!! please can someone help me out? cheers. pat

You will get a ton of back and forth about the 1000 compared to the 2000xl so I wont really touch on that too much.

As far as the good or bad pad issue with the 1k, I would advise getting it new and being able to pick it up from a store. There have been a bunch of discrepancies as to what is a sure fire way to identify good pads over bad ones. The only 100% way to know is if you physically move a pad on a unit with the upgrade, the corresponding pad will move. Old style pads are individual and will not move adjacent pads. Claims that the black or silver panel in the back, and serial numbers havent been 100% accurate. A buddy of mine (who is a drummer) fell in love with my 1k, we also MIDI'ed it up to his yamaha electronic drum kit and made some real interesting stuff.

some people have a blue one and put a black kit on it.

sorry to keep dragging this up. do you think this model has the new pads? just buy looking at it can you tell?
