USB mode just will NOT work!

Installed a 40gb IDE drive in the MPC today and I have been having issues. When I first tried to plugged it into my computer, the PC saw the MPC and installed the drivers and the disk drive I: showed up under my computer. However when double clicked, it would just say "please insert disk" (something like that) basically saying it didn't see any memory there. So I formatted the hard drive in my MPC using the built in utility, now I cant get my computer to see it at all, and after trying to connect to my computer for a while, the MPC screen just goes blank. Anyone have any ideas? THanks, sorry for the long post.

are you sure that the harddisk is ok? have you tried to connect it directly to your computer?

have you tried to save and reload anything to and from it inside the mpc only? and are you running pc or mac?

I have not connected the hard drive directly to my comp. However I can hear the disk start up and spin down (in the MPC) and the Akai OS sees all 40 gigs available, as well as reading and writing to it no problem. Still no USB connect though, UGH! No point of the HDD if I cant transfer large amounts to it from the PC (which is Windows btw). Thanks.

i'm on mac and don't know anything about windows. have you tried to connect the mpc to another computer? perhaps it's just a problem with your pc...

this could be a stupid question, but have you read the manual? you have to put the mpc to usb mode. it's in the save/load menu.

Does your computer have the latest version of it's BIOS installed? Sometimes there are quirks in older BIOS versions that won

Which version of Windows do you have? Make sure you have all the latest updates and patches install for whatever version you have.

Tried on my laptop now as well, still doesnt work. I plug the MPC in, go to usb mode (on the mpc) and it says connected, the laptop says "installed mpc1000 drivers your device is ready to use", then I go to "My Computer", and there is nothing there, no drive to double click on. I can save anything I do on my MPC to the hard drive, and load it also, and it shows all 40gb there. My screen on my MPC also goes blank as soon as it "connects" for USB mode, is this normal? Thanks.

Ok, so didn't realize that I had the flash card in this last time I tried it on my laptop. Took it out and now it will connect to the computer without the MPC screen going blank, and will show F: in My Computer. It still says "please insert a disk" when I double click on the drive though...anyone had this problem???

Ok , my bad. Now realize that you can select either the hard drive, or memory card before you hit USB mode. So I can access my flash card now just fine, but when I select USB mode for the hard drive is when the MPC screen goes blank and nothing shows up on the computer, so the same problem persists. I guess it must be some issue with the hard drive, I'll have to try another I think...
